Nuclear plant in Russia to be de-commissioned
At the beginning of the third millennium Russia intends decommissioning all first- generation nuclear power plants. This was announced in Paris to journalists by Armen Abagyan, Director General of the АН-Russian Research Institute for the Maintenance of Nu- clear Power Stations. According to his statement, nine of Russia's Nuclear Power Stations are currently operating a
total of 29 power units, of which twelve are of the first generation, i.e., were built about 25 years ago. After the year 2000 they will all be de- commissioned and eventually dismantled.

Nuclear power stations in South Korea to be examined
South Korea is prepared to allow North Korea to examine units 3 and 4 at the Uljin nu- clear power station so that Pyongyang can be satisfied as to the reliability of South Korea's light-water reactors. A statement to this effect was made during a visit to the power station by the deputy Prime Minister, who is also the Minister for National Unity in the Korean Republic (i.e. South Korea). He made the statement following North Korea's refusal to accept the South Korean re- actors within the context of the US – North Korean nuclear agreement signed in Geneva in October 1994. On Saturday the South Korean foreign industry denied a report in the local press that the General Secretary of the International Atomic Energy Agency had declared in Seoul that North Korea had recently begun preparing to recharge its reactor in Yongtzen.

Trade union sources reported that the strike organizers also called for a blockade of the main railways and roads till next Wednesday. On the eve of the strike trade union representatives met the Bangladeshi Labour Minister and the owners of private factories but failed to reach an agreement. The present strike is the second within a month.
