Определительный инфинитивный комплекс

Инфинитив в функции определения, как правило следует непосредственно за определяемым существительным и отвечает на вопрос: какой? (какая? какие?).

Plans to expand certain elements of the anti-missile defence system to Europe cannot help but disturb us.

В некоторых случаях инфинитив в этой функции выражает модальность, что в переводе может (но не обязательно) передаваться модальным глаголом или модальным словом:

The cost of gas to be delivered from Central Asia would be huge, considering the shipment distance and the amount of investment required.

Стоимость газа, который будет поставляться из Средней Азии, будет очень высокой, учитывая дальность транспортировки и объемы необходимых инвестиций.

В переводе инфинитив to be delivered с помощью грамматического приемазамены типа предложения трансформирован в придаточное определительное предложение к существительному газ.

Иногда определительный инфинитив опускается при переводе на русский язык, поскольку оказывается избыточным:

This alternative energy source is available at no cost, and will be available to generate energy tomorrow and for millions of years to come.

Этот источник альтернативной энергии доступен и за него не надо платить, и он будет доступен для производства энергии завтра и следующие миллионы лет.

Определительный инфинитивный комплекс часто встречается после числительных the first, the second, the last, the next. В этом случае при переводе необходимы грамматические трансформации:

The Organization of American States (OAS) was the first regional organization to conclude a convention against terrorism.

Организация американских государств (ОАГ) первой заключила антитеррористическую конвенцию.

Применив грамматический прием замены частей речи, переводчик трансформировал определительный инфинитив в личную форму глагола в том же времени, что и глагол сказуемое в английском предложении.

Задание 1. Переведите предложения с определительным инфинитивным комплексом на русский язык. Используйте необходимые трансформации.

1. Votes@16 is a national campaign aimed at changing UK law to allow teenagers to vote at 16.
2. The Committee will introduce and take action on the revised draft resolution at a date to be announced.
3. The source of current tensions driving the nuclear arms race is not hard to surmise.
4. However in France, after the Charlie Hebdo killings, the National Front reaped no immediate dividend, but even though they are not necessarily connected, the killings in Paris have made the refugees crisis more complex and more sensitive to handle.

Инфинитивный комплекс с предлогом for

Эта конструкция не требует трансформации инфинитива, если она является подлежащим в предложении, которое обычно начинается с безличного оборота с местоимением it:

Today, it is crucialfor Russia and Europe to restore the pragmatism that enabled them to cooperate successfully in the energy sector last century and start looking for the best mutually advantageous and mutually respectful format of interaction.

Сегодня России и Европе важно восстановить прагматичные отношения, которые в прошлом веке позволяли им успешно сотрудничать в энергетическом секторе, и начать поиски наилучшего формата сотрудничества, основанного на взаимной выгоде и уважении.

Однако чаще при переводе этой конструкции приходится прибегать к трансформациям:

But waiting for world events to calm down is not an option.

Но ждать, пока события в мире нормализуются – это не выход.

- в переводе использован грамматический прием замены типа предложения (инфинитивный комплекс преобразуется в придаточное предложение, добавляется союз «пока» и инфинитив заменяется личной формой глагола).

Иные преобразования понадобились в переводе следующего примера:

Several factors have made it riskier for migrants to head for Italy by boat: hundreds have drowned in repeated disasters at sea; …

Несколько факторов сделали переправу мигрантов в Италию по морю более рискованной: сотни людей утонули во время неоднократных морских катастроф; … 

Соблюдение нормы русского языка потребовало заменить английский инфинитив существительным. Таким образом, был применен грамматический прием замены частей речи.

Задание 2. Переведите предложения с инфинитивным комплексом с предлогом for на русский язык. Используйте необходимые преобразовательные приемы.

1. It was important for Iran to have access to the peaceful development of nuclear energy, while that country's neighbours should be able to live in peace.

2. Given the nearly existential threat that the Islamic State poses, it makes sense for members of the international community to combat it with everything their combined arsenals can muster.

3. The Houthis are a Shi’ite group benefiting from long term support from Tehran – although military assistance is officially denied – so it is important for Iran to see them gain power.

4. During the night, thousands of residents searched for open spaces to sleep, fearing further aftershocks which could bring even more structures down.

Сложное подлежащее

Синтаксическая конструкция «сложное подлежащее» (complex subject) является результатом трансформации сложноподчиненного предложения, в котором главное предложение – безличное. В медиа текстах сказуемое в таких предложениях чаще всего выражено следующими глаголами и именными конструкциями:

- to seem, to appear, to turn out – в действительном залоге

- to report, to say, to expect, to believe, to consider – в страдательном залоге

- to be sure/certain/likely/unlikely.  

В русском языке нет аналогичной конструкции, поэтому в процессе перевода английское простое предложение со сложным подлежащим может трансформироваться в следующие структуры: простое предложение с вводным словом, сложноподчиненное с главным безличным предложением, простое предложение.

Задание 3a. Сравните английские предложения с инфинитивным комплексом «сложное подлежащее»   с их переводом на русский язык. Определите, какие трансформации были использованы в переводе.

Герундий

Герундий, будучи неличной формой глагола, сочетает свойства глагола и существительного. В русском языке нет этого грамматического явления, поэтому при переводе герундия необходимо прибегать к его трансформациям. В зависимости от функции герундия в предложении его эквивалентом в русском языке могут быть инфинитив, существительное, деепричастие или придаточное предложение. На перевод герундия также может влиять значение предлога или выражения, после которых он встречается.

Задание 4a. Сравните английские предложения с герундием с их переводом на русский язык. Определите, какие трансформации были использованы в переводе.
