It is rapidly becoming one of priorities, socio-historical necessities for learners and teachers of English. ESP is a relevant component for formal education in foreign languages at the tertiary level for students of different non-linguistic professional profiles. The article is centered on certain linguistic problems that may help students develop their communicative skills in professional communication, that will add to its effectiveness and achieve positive results. The author offers a range of practical advice and suggestions in teaching terms and terminological combinations, creating some particular text formats used in professional writing, drawing consistently on cultural information to ensure adequate level of communication in formal and informal situations.

Visharenko Svetlana(St Petersburg State University, Russia). Linguodidactic and psychoacoustic aspects of teaching English as a foreign language to students majoring in technical subjects

The paper is dedicated to the issues concerning teaching English as a foreign language to students majoring in technical subjects. Modern specialists must have sufficient communication skills in a foreign language (usually, English) and will need to read technical documentation; sometimes a translator`s help will not be available. However, students majoring in technical subjects can seldom boast good reading and communication skills in a foreign language as they dedicate a considerable amount of time to studying technical subjects. Usually they are required to learn a considerable number of technical terms in English, which is often done using the traditional “text translation” method. At the same time, a previous study [Visharenko S.V., Gordeeva I.A., 2016] has demonstrated that such students do not always have sufficient communicative competence or even aptitude. Their listening skills are often not sufficiently well-developed. It is quite evident that technical specialists will probably encounter various noises making the communication process more difficult. The paper deals with problems of foreign language teaching and psychoacoustic aspects.

GRAMMAR THEORY AND TEXT LINGUISTICS

Abubakarova Brilliant. The use of the aspectological context for realization of local iteration

The paper deals with the means of realization of iteration within the aspectological context. The subject of research is the study of adverbial modifiers of iteration which realize the meaning of repeated actions in the aspectual context. The analysis of the material is based on the functional theory which was developed by A.V. Bondarko. Functional-semantic category comprises the system of different language means which interact to realize certain semantic functions. Such linguistic means make functional-semantic category of aspectuality. The theory of functional-semantic categories is related to the theory of functional-semantic fields made of interacting linguistic means of different levels defining the character and distribution of the action within time. The material presents the examples of several groups of temporal-local adverbial modifiers of iteration. Among them: 1. adverbial modifiers characterizing the repeatability of spatial parameters at unidirectional movements, for example, round and round; 2. adverbial modifiers characterizing the repeatability of spatial parameters at oppositely directed movements, for example, up and down; 3. adverbial modifiers with a repeated word denoting different references, for example, room to room. 4. adverbial modifiers with the meaning of local multiplicity, for example, at a dozen places. Considering the peculiarities of English the research proved that only non-verbal means of language can express iterative actions from the point of their frequency, periodicity and regularity.
