Faking illness
Vomiting – рвота, to moan – стонать, to convince – убеждать, take a pity - пожалеть
As a child I was a master of faking illness. At the age of 10 I knew the symptoms of over 15 of them. I had to know as the more often I faked the same illness the harder it became to pull off.
One day I even had to imitate vomiting. I found a can of zucchini and tomato soup, poured it in and around the toilet and began to call mom. My mother came at once and took a pity on her poor son. As a result I didn’t go to school.
But all those golden days ended one morning when I took things too far. We had a sort of epidemic at school. Many kids were off, and I didn’t think it was fair for me to go to school only because I was well. I had already tried the symptoms of flu, sore throat, appendicitis and other diseases so I used the simplest trick and heated up the thermometer over my bedside lamp.
That morning mom gave me the thermometer and left the room. In 20 seconds I had a temperature of 37*. That was not enough. Ten seconds later it was 38*. Better but still low. I placed the thermometer back under the light and heard a POP. I looked at it: the temperature was too high to survive.
In a minute I heard my mom returning to the room. I began to moan. Mom asked for the thermometer. I didn’t respond, I was dying after all. She found it on the floor and looked at it. I moaned harder but it didn’t help.
