If you had a power to solve a single problem in today’s world, what it would be?

If I have a chance to solve a single problem of the world, I would do my best to stop terroristic actions. Of course, I can’t do it by myself, so I need supporters. Terrorism destroys a lot of cities. Terrorists have blown up airports, shops, schools, houses recently in many countries all over the world. Terrorism is the global problem nowadays that endangers life of every person on the earth. To solve the problem of global terrorism, we must try to find the roots of it, to analyze the actions of countries taken against terrorism, social attitude to this phenomenon. The first step is to take under rigid control mass media and Internet .Then it’s necessary to give children and teenagers the real facts as they represent the future generation to rule the country. A special organization must be created .This organization would spend special meetings in colleges, universities and at schools where global problems could be discussed

1. Let’s talk about education. What can you tell me about the place where you study?

I study at school number 7 in Novogrudok. We are one of Belarusian schools for boys and girls from 6 to 18.We believe that every child is an individual. Our aim is to help students find their hidden possibilities. We try to develop their talents and abilities. We offer the variety of facilities for all students which can help you to study. School encourages interest and enthusiasm both during classes and at the weekends. Our school is famous for its tradition of honesty, friendliness and hospitality. “Love and Respect for all” is a golden rule. The 3-storeyed school building itself is of a typical design. Its corridors and classrooms are very beautiful. The halls are beautifully decorated. We have a modern library where we can read books, enjoy pictures and virtual galleries, surf the internet. Our classrooms are very comfortable. They are light and clean, they all have original decorations. All rooms are well- equipped. There are many traditions in our school. A school year is nine months long and it's full of events! Many of them became traditions because they happen every year on the same dates. Some traditions are similar in all Belarusian schools, some are unique. The school year starts on September, 1. This day is special for all: school children, their teachers and parents. The day starts with the school gathering when all classes and teachers stand in front of the school and listen to the welcoming speeches of their teachers, schoolmates and parents. Students look really nice in their new school uniforms! Everyone is excited to see their school friends and teachers after long summer holidays. After the school gathering teachers take their classes to their classrooms for the first lesson. When the lesson is over, students may have a class event - a picnic or a walk in the park or a class trip. The events on this day are usually the same every year but everyone waits for this day, likes it and remembers it.

We regularly have subject weeks. There are a lot of clubs in the school. You can go to the singing club where you can sing a lot of songs. And you will sing in the concerts. There is a theatre club for children from primary school. There they can stage small plays. There is the brain club. Children from our school always win the first or the second prizes at district competitions.

I think many our traditions are similar to the traditions in other Belarusian schools but there are some special traditions in each school.

2. Do you agree that Belarusian secondary school provides a person with good knowledge? Why (not)?

Personally I think that the educational system of our republic is one of the best in the world.  At school children are supplied with all the necessary textbooks, schools are equipped with modern technologies such as computers, smart boards, laser pointers. It makes the process of learning more interesting and enjoyable. So all the opportunities are given and the rest is up to you. Any person can get the high-quality education according to their abilities. In Belarus school gives a good start in life to have a good job and to be a success.

3. Your British friend has just entered a college. What questions will you ask him/her?

What do you specialize in?

What is your timetable like?

Do you take part in extra class activities?

How many years will you study at college?

I wonder if you have already made many new friends.

4. What can you advise a student who is not very good at languages to achieve better results?

Knowledge of foreign languages is very important nowadays. You can improve your  command of a foreign language if you really want to do it. First of all you should brush up your grammar because grammar rules explain how to speak the foreign language correctly. Listening skills are very important because you should understand the person you talk to. I think different programs for listening skills on the Internet will be useful. It’s a good idea to listen to songs in English and try to understand them. You can also watch films in English. The main thing I think is your readiness to speak English. Don’t be afraid of making a mistake. Practice makes perfect.

5. People say that we learn from our own mistakes. What do you think about it?

Everyone makes mistakes in life. The only way to prevent making a mistake a second time is to learn. Learning from your own mistakes enables you to progress. Mistakes give us the required experience in life, make us learn the essential things in life, teach us lessons in life. We can learn a lot from our own mistakes in the past because we know the intensity, what we have been through in that situation and what we could have done better. We can learn a lot from our own mistakes. But you can only learn from a mistake after you admit you've made it. Once you recognize the problem and know the better way, you will be able to avoid similar mistakes. We need to learn from our mistakes so that we do not run the risk of repeating them. We must develop the wisdom and sense to make good decisions and choices.

1. Let’s talk about tourism. Do you like travelling? Why?

I like travelling because it brings something new to the routine of our everyday life. Day after day we follow the standard procedure: work, home, household chores. And it is a vicious circle. People complain about the lack of free time and as a result very often we see crowds of gloomy exhausted bored by the routine people. So is there a cure for this? What can inspire us? What can give new emotions? What brings joy and novelty to our lives? What can distract us from our daily routine? The answer is obvious travelling.

Nowadays in the era of great number of reliable types of transport, open borders and affordable tickets one can consult numerous travel agencies which suggest a wide range of tours. You just need to choose a destination, hop on a bus, train or a plane and prepare yourself for a life changing experience.

Travelling has many advantages. It broadens our mind. Every trip opens our eyes a bit offering a bigger picture of the world. We get acquainted with new people and get rid of national stereotypes. We notice how different we are from other nations but we learn to be tolerant towards these differences.

Travelling is useful for educational purposes as well. During the tours and excursions you learn about history, geography and the culture of the country you visit. All this knowledge will be helpful for your studies and make you an interesting person.

You can travel around your country and come in touch with the history of your motherland, visit ancient fortresses and imagine how your ancestors lived. And you can also travel abroad. Whatever destination you choose, be sure that you will return from your trip changed, transformed. Just travel with open eyes and heart.
