Do you use any of them when you get prepared for your classes?

I use mass media when I get prepared for my classes as they serve to inform people of different events that take place or may happen. But the most important thing that newspapers, radio or TV bring to people is information. Complete and accurate information is very important to get nowadays for writing reports and research. I make use of it while preparing for history, geography, English lessons. They also contain some other topics like health care, arts and so on. A lot of newspapers have advice columns, review of books, comics, crossword puzzles, etc. Most of them have different pictures, photographs and illustrations. Mass media also discuss problems of health care, education, transportation or even corruption in government.

What questions will you ask your friend who has offered you to keep a blog together?

What kind of information do you usually look for in the Internet?

Do you often surf the Internet?

Do you have a profile on a social media site?
Do you think that life is impossible without the Internet?

What issues are you going to highlight?

The editor wants to improve the work of his/her magazine. Give him/her a piece of advice on what issues young people are interested in.

I can give you some tips to make your more popular. You should think of the issues teens are interested in. Teens go crazy over celebrities, so anything about their well-loved celebrities always sell magazines like hotcakes. Besides celebrity interviews, you can also write on celebrity gossip, fun facts about teen idols, and current fashion styles. You can cover the newest skincare line for teens, how to apply makeup properly and to buy the best cosmetics. Another makeover feature is simple tips on how to look glam in 5 minutes or dress in less than 30 minutes.

Music plays a huge role in a teen’s life. Many of them listen and play music to express themselves. Speaking of bands, you can write articles about upcoming and popular musicians or music groups, the songs they play, where they’re playing next, types of shows or concerts in which they are appearing, the story behind their success, their upcoming tours, etc.

Love is always part of a teenager’s life. You can offer insightful tips on teen dating; or you can tackle more sensitive subjects such as teen pregnancy, drug addiction, and peer pressure.

Thousands go to college every year, and they need some ideas on what schools to go to, where to stay, what to expect, what courses are in demand, how to choose the right course, or how to apply for student loans.

Teens love to have fun. You can write about your community’s party scene, the best places to go how to dress for a seasonal party, and upcoming parties and festivities.

Can the Internet replace all the other means of mass media? What do you think about it?

I think the Internet can’t replace all the other means of mass media: newspapers, magazines, radio, television. The press always focuses public attention on the most important questions of social, economic, scientific and cultural life. Most newspapers in our country come out daily, besides there are some weeklynewspapers too. Reports by political observes and commentators help us get useful information at home and foreign affairs. Our family are in the habit of reading newspapers in the evenings. My brother is fond of reading interviews given by famous people. My father considers that the most interesting are publications, dealing with our states peaceful policy, economic development, education and science. I share his point of view.

Magazines provide information on a wide range of topics such as business, culture, hobbies, medicine, religion, science, and sports. Some magazines entertain their readers with fiction, poetry, photography or articles about TV, or movie stars. There are specialized magazines for business, industrial and professional groups.Children’s magazines contain stories, jokes, articles on subjects especially interesting for children and instructions for making games. Hobby maga-zines are intended for collectors ofcoins, stamps, and other items. Intellectual magazines provide analysis of current cultural and political events. Men’s magazines focus on adventure, entertainment, men’s fashion and sports. Women’s magazines deal with child-raising, fashion trends, romance, cooking and home decorating.

Radio is one of the most wonderful inventions. You can speak to a man on the other side of the world. I listen to the wireless almost every evening. I use my set a good deal for improving my English. Radio and TV are widely used in today’s world. When I come home from school I turn on the radio, leave it on and go about my household duties. So I am actually doing two things at one and the same time. The best radio station for me is EuropaPlus and Radio Maximum. I watch TV at the evening when all the lessons I have done. I prefer tosee news programs such as: ”Vesty” and ” The Time”. Sometimes we can watch rather interestingfilms at TV. There are different kinds of films, for instance: a nature film, a war film, a crime film, atravelogue, an adventure film, a musical film and comic film. As for me I prefer to see comic andcrime films.

That’s why I think that we can’t live without TV and radio, newspapers and magazines nowadays.

1. Let’s talk about international cooperation. Is Belarus active on the international arena?

As a sovereign country, Belarus enjoys full rights and is active on the foreign arena. Belarus is one of the constituent member states of the United Nations Organization (UNO) and takes an active part in the work of this association, its organs and institutions. Belarus regularly sends its delegations to the sessions of the UNO General Assembly, has its permanent delegation and its own staff in it. Belarus is a member of some international specialized organizations, commissions, bureaus, funds and other organs.

On the initiative of Belarus the international organizations have adopted a number of important decisions, particularly on the punishment of war criminals, on education of youth in the spirit of ideas of peace and friendship among nations. Belarus has signed many treaties, agreements, protocols and conventions on co-operation with other countries in various fields. Belarus has many a time been the seat of different international meetings and seminars. Together with representatives of other peace-loving countries Belarus is struggling for the basic interests of all nations of the world, for their peace and security, co-operation and friendship.

The Belarusian people constantly strengthen and broaden their ties with the peoples of other countries. Belarusian public organizations have established direct contacts and exchange delegations with their trade unions, youth, women's and sports organizations. Fruitful are the activities of the Belarusian Society for Friendship and Cultural Relations with foreign countries. It maintains contacts with many organizations of many countries.

2. Do you know any international events that take place in Belarus?

I should say that many international events take place in Belarus as the country has plenty to show to its guests. The cultural life in Belarus never slows down at any time of the year. The international festival ‘Slavyansky bazaar’ in Vitebsk became one of the most significant events known far beyond the country. Hundreds of viewers are attracted by the film festival ‘Listopad’ held in Minsk, where globally known directors present their films. Numerous festivals of classic, spiritual and jazz music and folklore fests attract visitors and participants from all over the world. For example in 2010, we hosted ‘Eurovision’ song contest for children that attracted participants from 14 countries. Special place in event tourism is taken by so-called ‘fan-tourism’ or tourism for supports visiting different sport events. Numerous competitions of different difficult levels, World and Europe cups and championships are held in Belarus. In fact, in 2014, Belarus hosted the World Ice Hockey Championship. Knight tournaments and medieval music festivals having their numerous admirers are quite popular. All these events of cultural and sport life help guests of our country to see Belarus from various sides, to come back and get to know it better.

3. Ask your British friend about international events in the United Kingdom.

I wonder if any international festivals are held in Great Britain.

What sport competitions attract visitors to the county?

Do many foreign tourists attend festivals connected with the royal family?

What international summer camps in Great Britain will you advise me to go?

Have you ever hosted a foreign student?

4. Your British friend is interested in fashion. What international event in Belarus will you advise him to visit?

It goes without saying that my friend should visit Belarus Fashion Week (BFW). He will get a great opportunity to get acquainted with the works of foreign designers from Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, France and Portugal. My friend won’t be disappointed with the works of the local designers who create the shape of contemporary Belarusian fashion scene. The project BFW Fashion Study Center will provide him an opportunity to meet professionals engaged in the fashion business, exchange views and enrich experience. Among projects held within the frameworks of BFW, he should also visit “Fashion Weekend – showroom”. It is a sales-exhibition where visitors can buy designer clothes, accessories and footwear. In general, my friend will broaden his horizons and enrich his knowledge about Belarus.

5. What is a foreign exchange student programme? Would you like to take part in one?

A foreign exchange student programme is a programme when a student from Belarus, for example, goes to a foreign country,  it can be Great Britain, Germany or the United States of America and stays with a hosting family for some weeks or months. This student has a chance to participate in the life of the family, study at college and get acquainted with foreign culture.   I want to say that being a foreign exchange student will broaden your outlook and give a lot of unforgettable memories. Some lucky students from our school visited the United States of America as exchange students, but unfortunately this programme has stopped its activities. Maybe I would you like to take part in a foreign exchange student programme when I’m a student.
