People say that volunteering can make a great difference to our lives and the lives of others around us. What do you think about it?

Volunteering allows students to get involved with new things and develop technical, social, and academic skills that couldn’t be learned in a classroom environment. Whether you’re helping out at your local library or tutoring underprivileged kids, volunteering allows you to experience different environments and situations. A lot of young people in Europe work in hospitals and kindergartens as volunteers. Nobody forces them to do this kind of work. There are always a lot of people who agree to work without any pay. I think they want to be helpful. When you help other people it gives you a sense of importance and necessity. Volunteers create better environments for others; they create healthier communities, and they brighten lives. Volunteering allows you to meet a wide variety of people from all sorts of walks of life. Volunteer work makes us feel good. It builds self-confidence and lifts up the spirits. Charity work gives students opportunities to test out a desired career path. By gaining new experiences and creating new connections, volunteers are able to better visualize themselves in the chosen field. To sum up volunteering helps us feel better because we make the world better.

Let’s speak about the mass media. What is the role of modern technologies in our fast-moving world?

When we think about modern means of communication we cannot understand how people who lived some fifty years ago were able to keep in touch. Nowadays, with a mouse in one hand and a mobile phone in the other one, we cannot imagine human contacts without modern technology devices. Thanks to the new technologies people are communicating more than ever before. Modern means of communication have made the distance between people unimportant. Unlike 20 years ago, we usually call someone, not visit. This traditional way of keeping in touch has suffered a lot as people choose quicker and easier phone calls. People send e-mails instead of letters. Modern technologies replaced letters and postcards. The internet and mobile phones are used the most frequently nowadays.

Technology is everywhere; it has changed every aspect of our lives, the way we buy our books, listen to our favourite music, book our holidays, even the way we stay in touch with family and friends; it rules everything and most importantly how and why we communicate. We cannot function without computers and thanks to our smartphones we are ‘open for business’ 24/7. Is this an ideal situation? Maybe not, maybe we have become more stressed, more dependent on our devices in order to perform our roles in the business environment… but technology is there for us and we have to embrace it and make the most of it. Technology helps people to stay in touch with each other, people can hold multiple conversations at the same time and basically anybody in an organization can communicate with the external world. Is this a good thing for the business environment? I believe it makes communication more dynamic but also more unpredictable. All in all, technology has always been and continues to be the greatest change agent of our civilization. Everyday there is something new and we could simply say that we live in technological times…so what will the future bring?

2. Is television a reliable source of information? Is it still popular with young people?

On the one hand television is a reliable source of information. Thanks to TV we get a great amount of information and entertainment. It gives wonderful possibilities for education. We become more informed watching documentaries, science programs and news reports. Despite the fact that television that brought many positive changes into our life, made it easier, more comfortable, more interesting and entertaining, there are some disadvantages that we have to realize. Very little has been done by TV producers to improve the process of education of young people. Watching TV is not always good, everybody knows that. Watching TV non - stop is really bad. Everything should be done within reasonable limits. There have been cases of television addiction, especially among teenagers whose personalities are being formed largely by the TV image they see. If parents don’t keep an eye on their children and let them sit in front of the TV the whole day long, they can be sure that something wrong will go with their kids.
