FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION

Federation Bureau of Investigation, the FBI, was created primarily to handle criminal investigations for the department of Justice.

The FBI is the police department in the US that is controlled by the central government, and is concerned with crimes in more than one state. The FBI fights against all elements which pose a threat to the security of the people in the United States, to the National’s security.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is responsible for conducting investigations where a federal interest is concerned. In pursuance of its duties, the bureau gathers facts and reports the results of its investigations to the attorney general of the United States and his assistants in Washington, and to the United States attorneys' offices in the federal judicial districts of the nation.

The bureau, headquartered in Washington, has field offices in large cities throughout the United States. It works closely with state and local enforcement agencies. In addition, the FBI maintains liaison posts in several major foreign cities to facilitate the exchange of information with foreign agencies on matters relating to international crime and criminals. The head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, whose title is director, was appointed by the attorney general until 1968; thereafter, by law, he became subject to appointment by the president of the United States with the advice and consent of the Senate. INTERPOL

The idea of INTERPOL was born in 1914 at the first International Criminal Police Congress, held in Monaco. This meeting brought together police officers and judicial representatives from 24 countries to find ways to cooperate on solving crimes, notably arrest and extradition procedures, identification techniques and the idea of centralized criminal records.

Officially created in 1923, INTERPOL – the International Criminal Police Organization – has seen its membership grow steadily over the years. Today, 190 member countries work together on a daily basis, using the databases, tools and secure communications systems that the Organization offers.

Interpol is divided into four main bodies – the General Assembly, the Executive Committee, the General Secretariat and the National Central Bureaus.

The General Assembly is composed of the delegates from each member country. The General Assembly controls the policy of the organization.

The Executive Committee is a nine –member board made-up of the president, two vice-presidents, and six delegates chosen by the General Assembly.

The General Secretariat is Interpol’s business division. It contains the “permanent departments” four of which specialize in certain crimes: one handles murder, burglary, assault, larceny, car theft, and missing persons; another deals with bank frauds and other types of embezzlement; a third with drug traffic; and a fourth deals with forgery and counterfeiting.

The National Central Bureaus are the Interpol offices in various countries. Each NCB is empowered to communicate directly with and exchange information with any other NCB.
