Let’s talk about travelling. What role does it play in your life?

People on our planet can't live without travelling now.

Tourism has become a highly developed business. There are express trains, cars and jet-air liners all of that provide you with comfort and security.

Nowadays people travel not only for pleasure but also on business.

There are a lot of means of travelling: by sea, by plane, by car, on foot.

All means of travelling have their advantages and disadvantages.

And people choose one according to their plans.

I like to travel. First of all, the members of our family usually have long walks in the country.

During such hikes we see a lot of interesting places, sometimes we meet interesting people.

As for me, it's more comfortable to travel by train and by plane.

When I travel by plane, I don't spend a lot of time going from one place to another, I like to fly.

I like to travel by car too.

It's interesting too, because you can see many things in a short time.

2. How do you like to travel? As for me, I enjoy all kinds of travelling very much. I think it's more comfortable to travel by train and by plane. But I also like to travel by car. It's interesting too, because you can see many things in a short time.

3. What questions would you ask a travel agent to learn more about a tour? How many nights will I have in Egypt? How much does my trip cost? How will I get there?

4. What can you advise a person who doesn’t know where to spend his/her holiday? If I were you, I would travel around my own country first and then travel abroad. There are a lot of places to visit in Belarus, such as Mir and Nesvizh castles, Belavezhskayapushcha, Brest fortress and others.

5. Today people are tired of exotic countries and prefer to spend holidays in the countryside in Belarus. What can attract people to it? Certainly, low prices and unique beauty of our nature can attract people to stay people in Belarus.

ENVIRONMENT

1. Now let’s talk about environment. People say that our planet is in danger. Do you share this opinion?People say that we should protect the world we live in. It's our home, our wealth. But these are only words. And the world today really needs actions. Actions of everyone of us.

The first problem is water pollution in the country. Most big cities pour their waste into seas and rivers.

We love rain. Rain helps our plants to grow big and strong. But sometimes the rainwater is not as clean as it could be. Man-made chemicals get into the air and mix with the rainwater, making acid rain. The acid water runs into rivers and lakes. The rivers and lakes become so acid that fish cannot live there.

The second problem is air pollution. When there are too many harmful things in the air, it is polluted.

People and animals need clean air with plenty of oxygen in it. Oxygen is added to the air by plants. So you understand how important it is to have a lot of trees, bushes and grass. Another problem of land pollution is using too many chemicals to grow vegetables and fruit. Too many chemicals in the ground can harm the soil.

The greenhouse effect is one of the most dangerous things. The ozone layer has giant holes, and it's not capable of protecting the humankind from the sun radiation any more....

Today, many scientists and world leaders realize that the Earth is in danger. It's really very simple. Either we stop killing the Earth or we will kill ourselves.

2. What do you think people should do to protect the environment? People can plant trees and create parks for endangered animals. They can recycle their wastes; persuade enterprises to stop polluting activities. And it is now more than ever apparent that at the same time people are destroying their bodies and their future.

3. What would you like to ask your British friend about measures that are taken to protect the environment in Britain? What actions does your government do to stop global warming? Are they similar to those in our country? How to stop deforestation without any harm to national economy?

4. A friend of yours wants to develop a programme to protect the city where he lives. Give him a piece of advice. I advise him firstly to enter the geographical department of particularized higher educational establishment and to look at this problem from a scientific point of view. Then I advise him to work with students because they are the most active part of the society.

5. Green School of the Year contest is held in the country and you want your school to enter it. Give ideas for some green ‘events’. I propose the idea of effective tree planting, days without cars and building special bicycle traces.

WEATHER & CLIMATE

1. Now let’s talk about weather and climate. What weather do you prefer? Climate is the weather a certain place has over a long period of time. Climate has a very important influence on plants, animals and humans and is different in different parts of the world. Some scientists think that the world is becoming hotter.

Many people say that it is so because of the greenhouse effect. The weather is the favourite conversational topic in England. The climate in Great Britain is mild and temperate due to the influence of the Gulf Stream. The British often say: "Other countries have a climate; in England we have weather." The weather in Britain is very changeable. That's why it is natural for the British to use the comparison "as changeable as the weather" of a person who often changes his mood or opinion about something.

The British also say that they have three variants of weather: when it rains in the morning, when it rains in the afternoon or when it rains all day long.

As for me, I prefer sunny warm weather, especially in summer. But I hate when it is very hot.

2. Are you weather dependent? I think that weather can influence the mood and state of many people, although I’m not a weather dependent person.

3. What questions would you ask a British person about their weather?Does it often rain in Great Britain? What is the coldest season in Great Britain? Is the weather in Great Britain very changeable?

4. Advise a foreigner what is the best season to come to Belarus? The best season to come to Belarus is spring because it’s not very cold and it’s not very hot. The weather is rather pleasant.

5. They say there’s no bad weather, there are bad clothes. What do you think about it? Englishmen say 'There is no bad weather, there are bad clothes', It means that they like all the seasons, all kinds of weather. Every season is good in its own way. I also like all the seasons of the year.
