Read the newspaper opinion column and say in 2-3 sentences what it is about.
This article is about a person who is proud of being Belarusian because he lives in Belarus and his parents are Belarusians. The author (he/she) is proud of our wonderful nature and people. Also he/she is proud of the rich heroic history of Belarus. We were part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Polish – Lithuanian Commonwealth and then the Russian Empire, we have managed to stay united and haven’t lost our uniqueness.
When did the author understand that he/she is proud of being Belarusian? Find this extract and read it aloud.

What makes the author be proud of his/her Motherland?
The author is proud of wonderful nature of Belarus, the rich heroic history, our national holidays and traditions, especially those which are deep-rooted such as Kalyady, Maslenitsa and Dazhynki.
What would the author do if he/she were a creative person?
If he/she were a creative person he/she would start drawing pictures with beautiful landscapes of our country and would write lyric poems about Belarus.

Why was Whitney worried about going to college?
Whitney was a bit shy and didn’t have a lot of friends and she was worried about how she was going to make friends in the college.
How did she find a friend?
One day she was asked to say some words about herself and Whitney said that her goal was to make just one good friend. Then one student came to her and held out his hand, introduced himself and asked if she would be his friend. This way she found a new friend.
What lesson did Whitney learn?
Whitney learned the power of asking for what she wanted, being honest and taking action.

What does your house/flat look like?
We have a nice flat in a new block of flats. Our flat is on the fourth floor. It has all modern conveniences: central heating, gas, electricity, cold and hot running water, a lift and a chute to carry rubbish down. There are three rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a hall in our flat.
The living-room is the largest and most comfortable room in the flat. In the middle of the room we have a square-table with six chairs round it. To the right of the dinner-table there is a wall-unit which has several sections: a sideboard, a wardrobe and some shelves. Between the two large windows there is a little table with a colour TV set on it. A small round table, a sofa and a standard lamp are in the left-hand corner.

The bedroom is smaller than the living-room and not so light as there is only one window in it. In this room there are two beds with a bedside-table between them. An alarm-clock and a small lamp with a pink lamp-shade are on the table. In the left-hand corner there is a dressing-table with a big mirror. In this room we have a built-in wardrobe with coat-hangers to hang clothes on.
It’s really wonderful to have a room for yourself. My room is not large but very cosy. There isn’t much furniture in it, only the most necessary. It has a writing-table and an armchair before it. In the right-hand corner there is a bookcase full of books, magazines and newspapers. A small table with a tape-recorder is standing in the left-hand corner.
In my opinion, the study is the best room in our flat. But the warmest place in our flat is the kitchen, I think — the place where the whole family gathers every evening not only to have supper together, but also to speak and rest. I like the English proverb: "My home is my castle” because my flat is, indeed, my castle
Do you like cleaning the house/flat? Why or why not?
No, I don’t like cleaning the flat. I think that doing housework is boring and takes a lot of time, but it’s a necessity because all people like comfort, delicious food, clean and tidy clothes. Certainly, I have some household duties. My regular chore is cleaning my room. Generally, I do it on Saturday: I vacuum it, mop the floor and arrange books in their usual order.
