Are there any family traditions that you follow?

1)In my view, traditions don’t need to be expensive. So in our family it is usually a walk in the park or a lazy Saturday morning sipping coffee and chatting.

2)Yes, there are. There are a lot of traditions in the world. Now I would like to tell you about customs and traditions in our family. We have several of them. First of all I’d like to tell about New Year. Every year we try to celebrate New Year in our grandparents’ house. Each of us prepares a little present for other members of the family. Usually we put them under the Christmas tree.

The next tradition is that we travel together every summer. Every year we choose a place for our trip. We like it because we can be together for several weeks and also we can make beautiful photos of each other. There are a lot of other traditions in our family, but they are not so interesting and important for us.

3)Yes, there are. We have some family traditions. We celebrate the birthdays of each member of the family, we also celebrate Easter, Christmas and New Year. All my relatives gather together at one big table. It’s also our family tradition to spend summer holidays in the country or go somewhere to the seaside, go fishing and cycling.

What questions will you ask a British teenager about his/her extended family?

Have you got a big family? Have you got any family traditions? Do you like to spend your free time with your family? Is your family large? What are your parents? Are there any problems in your family? What is your parents’ attitude to your friends? Have you got close relations with your parents? How often do you have misunderstandings with your parents? What do you usually do to solve the problems in your relationships?

Give a piece of advice on how to have a close and happy family.

1)First of all I can advise for anyone to try to understand the feelings of your parents and show respect to them. Even if you don’t agree with their thinking, try to make them understand politely, don’t use harsh words with them which may hurt. It’s important to celebrate your parents’ and grandparents’ birthdays. It will make them realize that you care for them.

2)If you want to have close relations in your family you should spend your free time together. You may go to the cinema or to a café together. You should help your relatives with household chores. Try to be open, friendly, caring, understanding and loving. Try to forgive your relatives. Don’t hurt them. And, of course, say a lot of words of love.

They say that parents and children have difficulties understanding each other because of the generation gap. What do you think about it?

The problem of generation gap exists only in families where people don’t want to understand each other. Sometimes parents give too much freedom to their children or parents are too strict. Sometimes teenagers don’t respect their parents and don’t want to obey. I’m lucky to say that there is no problem of generation gap in my family. Sometimes we disagree on some issues but we try to understand one another and to be honest and loving.

What makes a family united?

Nothing unites a family more than its traditions which include different norms, ways of behavior, customs and views. In united families these traditions are deep-rooted and passed from generation to generation.

How much time should family members spend together?

That varies from family to family. Families with young children usually spend most of their time together because young children need a great deal of physical care and guidance. Families with teenagers may spend less time together because teens naturally want to spend more time with their friends. Healthy families keep a good balance between ‘too much’ and ‘not enough’ time together. They spend enough time to satisfy all family members.
