Where is used of multimedia technology?

Multimedia is content that uses a combination of different content forms such as text, audio, images, animations, video and interactive content. Multimedia contrasts with media that use only rudimentary computer displays such as text-only or traditional forms of printed or hand-produced material.

Multimedia can be recorded and played, displayed, interacted with or accessed by information content processing devices, such as computerized and electronic devices, but can also be part of a live performance. Multimedia devices are electronic media devices used to store and experience multimedia content. Multimedia is distinguished from mixed media in fine art; by including audio, for example, it has a broader scope. The term "rich media" is synonymous for interactive multimedia. Hypermedia scales up the amount of media content in multimedia application.

What are bitmap graphics, where are they used, and how can they be identified?

When you take a photograph using a digital camera or scan an image from a magazine, you are creating a bitmap graphic.

A bitmap graphic is composed of many tiny parts, called pixels, which are often many different colours. It is possible to edit each individual pixel.

Since the computer has to store information about every single pixel in the image, the file size of a bitmap graphic is often quite large.

When you resize a bitmap graphic, it tends to lose quality.

Use the slider to zoom into the bitmap graphic below. Notice how as you zoom further in, the image loses quality and you can start to see each individual pixel.

Bitmap images can contain any number of colors but there are four main categories:

1. Line-art. These are images that only contain two colors, usually black and white. Sometimes these images are referred to as bitmaps because a computer has to use only 1 bit (on=black, off=white) to define each pixel.

2. Grayscale images, which contain various shades of gray as well as pure black and white.Typically 256 shades of gray (8-bit) are used even though the human visual system needs only 100 tints to perceive an image as life-like.

3. Multitones: such images contain shades of two or more colors. The most popular multitone images are duotones, which usually consist of black and a second spot color (often a Pantone color). The example below contains black and Pantone Warm Red.

4. Full color images. The color information can be described using a number of color spaces: RGB, CMYK or Lab for instance.

What is a vector graphic? How do vector graphics compare with bitmap graphics?

Vector graphics (vector graphics) - kind of computer graphics used in paint applications. Unlike raster graphics allows the user to create and modify the original graphic images in the preparation of drawings, technical drawings and diagrams by their rotation, zoom in or out, stretching.

It's almost impossible to discuss graphics software without first establishing an understanding of the differences between the two major 2D graphic types: bitmap and vector images. This is an important lesson and often a tough one to grasp. If you work with graphics at all, it's bound to come up, so it's an important concept to understand. Bitmap images (also known as raster images) are made up of pixels in a grid. Pixels are picture elements; tiny squares of individual color that make up what you see on your screen. Common bitmap formats include:

• GIF • JPEG, JPG • PNG • TIFF

What is compression? What is the difference between lossless and lossy compression?

Compression is performed by a program that uses a formula or algorithm to determine how to shrink the size of the data. For instance, an algorithm may represent a string of bits, or 0s and 1s, with a smaller string of 0s and 1s by using a dictionary for the conversion between them, or the formula may insert a reference or pointer to a string of 0s and 1s that the program has already seen.

Text compression can be as simple as removing all unneeded characters, inserting a single repeat character to indicate a string of repeated characters, and substituting a smaller bit string for a frequently occurring bit string. Compression can reduce a text file to 50% or a significantly higher percentage of its original size.

For data transmission, compression can be performed on the data content or on the entire transmission unit, including header data. When information is sent or received via the Internet, larger files, either singly or with others as part of an archive file, may be transmitted in a .ZIP, gzip or other compressed format.

What is Smart Technology.

Smart Technology has interactive qualities which often grant the user remote control via the internet.Smart technology means that computer technology is utilized to make logical decisions based on gathered data, in order to take actions which mimic what intelligent people will do. The term “smart” has been attached to appliances and devices which perform ancillary functions based on “decision making”. For example, programmable thermostats, smartphones, and smart power grids all use smart technology. Smart Technologies introduced the first Smart Board interactive whiteboard in 1991.[3] It was the first interactive whiteboard to provide touch control of computer applications and annotation over standard Microsoft Windows applications. In 2003, Smart developed and later patented DViT (Digital Vision Touch) technology.[4] This camera-based touch technology for interactive whiteboards and interactive displays uses digital cameras and proprietary software and firmware to detect finger or pen contact with the screen. That contact is then interpreted as finger or pen activity. Smart technology has changed our lives and it can change our homes. We don’t need a weather report to tell us what it is like or what it would be like. We have apps in our phones. We don’t need a desktop or laptop to work on presentations. Smart phones and tablets have all the software you can possibly need and are compatible with all tools that you may need for presentations, meetings and other professional tasks.
