GVDAMLTV08: EDUCATION CARE ORPHENAGE AND SUPPORT



 

The Kakamegaorphans care center provides a home for children deemed most needy by theUSFW woman. The care center was opened in January 2005 and now houses up to 50 children aged 1 to 17years most of whom have lost their parents to Aids, others have been abandoned with their parents, or recovered from street.

USFW offers family environment where children receive healthy meals, love, care, medical attention, and opportunity for accessing education.

The main objective of USFW is to rehabilitate the children and ensure their safety and welfare.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The volunteers will be involved in teaching  English (1-2 hours a day) to children, Organizing games, drawing, singing, dancing, and other creative education and extracurricular activities, Taking kids on Playgrounds, Helping kids to do homework, monitor academic progress, and make sure kids complete their homework (helping kids in brushing teeth, shower, and personal hygiene).Child care services for orphans who cannot go to school, Help kids to dress up and reach school safely, Help with administration, running errands, Help in other activities or programs designed for kids etc

No particular expertise or skills are required. Participants should have a positive attitude, be ready to adopt and enjoy simple living conditions, be flexible and patient. However, specialized skills and expertise (such as creative arts and counseling/nursing) will be used accordingly.  Provide a letter from the volunteersgovernment that show that you have never been involved in children trafficking

Day 1: Arrival and pick upfrom the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, in Nairobi, Kenya and transfer to host family home or hostel.

Day 2: Morning: registration and start of orientation. About 4 hours lecture at the home of your host. Topics covered during orientation lecture will include East African culture, history, customs, politics, geography, and necessary health precautions, and various other topics, such as the diversity of Kenyan life. Afternoon is free for exploring rural Kenyan life and getting to know your host family.

 

Relevant Details

GVDAMLTV09: EDUCATION AND SUPPORT

 

Ole kuntereprimary school is a public level mixed primary school offering 8-4-4 education systems and located at Ilaseer sub location of Narok East constituency, Narok County. Day only school, owned by a religious organization. It has a total number of 895 pupils.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Teach, play, organize games, repair and build classrooms, painting, Planting trees and landscaping, constructing the gabions to avoid soil erosion.

Volunteers will facilitate in educational activities with young children in the host community to promote culture. Twice a week volunteers will be planting trees in local schools, community Centre, planting is always done as a team effort together with school children or other community members. Teach English at local school, Home stay, Develop Lesson plans, Use and share own teaching methodologies, coordinate with local teachers, help them develop conversational skills in English, Learning about different cultures at close quarters.
