Private Accountant
Businesses that need full-time accountants hire private accountants. In contrast to a public accountant, a private accountant works for a single business, government agency, or nonprofit organization. Private accountants may or not be certified public accountants (CPAs). Private accountants who pass the exam given by the National Association of Accountants are called Certified Management Accountants (CMAs).

Private accountants often specialize in a particular task such as designing and installing accounting systems, budgeting, or measuring and controlling costs. Private accountants perform the same services as public accountants with one exception. Public accountants conduct independent audits of accounting and related records. An independent audit is an evaluation and unbiased opinion about the accounting of company financial statements. Private accountants audit as well, but these audits are not independent audits because they are not prepared by someone independent of the firm.
