Public Accountant
Not all firms want or need a full-time accountant. There are thousands of accounting firms in the United States that will do any accounting task you want. A person who provides accounting services to individuals or firms on a free basis is called a public accountant. Such accountants may help you or a business prepare taxes, do management consulting, or provide assistance in other ways. They may design an accounting system for a new business, help select the right computer hardware and software to run the system, analyze the financial strength of the firm right from the start.
The accounting profession tries to assure companies that the people they hire are as professional as doctors or lawyers. An accountant who passes a series of examinations established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and meets the state’s requirements for education and experience is called a certified public accountant (CPA).
