GREAT BRITAIN
1. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is situated on the British Isles. It consists of England, Scotland, Wales and North Ireland. Great Britain is surrounded by seas and is separated from the continent by the North Sea, the English Channel and the Strait of Dover.
2. The rivers in Great Britain are not long, but many of them are deep. The Severn is the longest river, while the Thames is the busiest and the most important river in England.
3. The climate of Great Britain is mild. The Atlantic Ocean and the warm waters of Guff Stream influence the weather of the British Isles. It is often foggy and rainy. The summer is not very hot and the winter is not very cold. Winter temperature seldom falls below zero. The average January temperature is about 5 degrees above zero. February is the coldest month in Great Britain but, of course, the climate is different in different parts of the country. In Scotland the climate is colder than in England.
4. There are many mountains in the north of England and in Scotland, but they are not very high. The highest mountain in Great Britain is Ben Nevis. The north of Scotland called the Highlands, while the south is known as the Lowlands. There are many lakes in Scotland. The most beautiful lake is Loch Lomond.
5. Great Britain has 'park-like' appearance. The art of gardening has a very old tradition. The parks are pieces of country in the middle of town. Everything is quiet and green. The people who come here can admire the lakes of Scotland, it’s fields, woods and parks, the valleys and orchards of Kent.
6. Great Britain is a constitutional monarchy. The power of the Queen is limited by the Parliament which consists of two houses-the House of Lords, the House of Commons.

7. Great Britain is a highly-developed industrial country. Nowadays the industrial centers of the country produce clothing, food, chemicals, machinery, coal, iron, ships and many other things.

1. Соединенное королевство Великобритании и Северной Ирландии расположено на Британских островах. Оно состоит из Англии, Шотландии, Уэльса и Сереной Ирландии. Великобритания окружена морями и отделена от континента Северным морем, Английским каналом и проливом Дувр.
2. Реки Великобритании не длинные, но многие из них глубокие. Северн – самая длинная река, а Темза – загруженная и важная река в Англии.
3. Климат в Великобритании мягкий, Атлантический океан и теплые воды Гольфстрима влияют на погоду Британских островов. Здесь часто туманно и дождливо. Летом не очень жарко, зимой не очень холодно. Зимняя температура редко опускается ниже нуля. Средняя январская температура около 5 градусов выше нуля. Февраль – самый холодный месяц, но, конечно, в разных частях страны климат разный. В Шотландии климат холоднее, чем в Англии.

5. Великобритания имеет парковый вид. Искусство садоводства – очень старая традиция. Парки – кусочки деревни в центре города. Все тихо и зелено. Люди, которые приезжают сюда, могут полюбоваться озерами Шотландии, полями, лесами и парками, долинами и садами Кента.
