“Neither have/ has, do/does…”. Make use of the given words:

MODEL:

Exercise 7. Make the sentences negative and ask general questions:

THE VERB “TO BE”

 

Notional   As a notional verb it means “быть”.     e.g. He is at home. Auxiliary   As an auxiliary verb it is used to form Continuous tenses and the Passive Voice.   e.g. He is doing his homework. I was working in the garden at 5 yesterday. This book is translated into a lot of languages. Link   As a link verb it is a part of the Compound Nominal Predicate.   e.g. He is a student. It is a book. We are fine. She is five.

 

The verb “to be” has different forms in different persons and numbers:

 

  Singular Plural
1st person I am (I’m) / I was We are (We’re) / We were
2nd person You are (You’re) / You were You are (You’re) / You were
3rd person He is (He’s) / He was She is (She’s) / She was It is (It’s) / It was They are (They’re) / They were

 

To form questions the verb “to be” is placed before the subject.

e.g. Are you married? Is he a student?

 

To form negatives we add “not” to the verb “to be”.
