Computers can be classified into two basic types: general-purpose and special-purpose machines.
General-purpose computers do all types of arithmetical computations and perform many other operations. A general-purpose computer is a data-processing centre that allows users to process data for many purposes.
Special-purpose computers are limited in the type of computation which they can do and in the function which they can perform. Special-purpose computers accept only certain types of data.
