Letter concerning the Tablet of the Divine Test 12 страница

So rise ye up from the slumber of base passion then follow thy Lord,

the Elevated, the Most Transcendent.

Notes

In this significant Arabic tablet Bahā-ullāh cites the substance of a epistle of Shaykh Aḥmad known as the Risāla al Rashtiyya (written 1197 /1783) written in response to an enquiry of Shaykh Msā ibn Muhammad al Sayīgh. He refers to its author in exalted terms as "the most glorious, the most favoured midday [sun] of Islam (ẓuhr al islām), the "Ka`bah of humankind" who was the "lamp of knowledge betwixt the worlds". In this work Shaykh Aḥmad had apparently responded to an enquiry from about the signficance of the phrase "the [messianic] Qā’im is in the backbone [loins] (al aṣlāb) ". In the course of his complex reply he refers to the letter wāw and to the sirr al tankīs li ramz al ra’īs , the "mystery of inversion on account of the symbol of the Ruler"; the reversed and extended letter wāw within the graphic Greatest Name of God symbol.

Tablet concerning the selection of                                                                      CHAPTER ONE

a International Auxiliary Language and Script                                                         Divisions 1-45

THE AUXILIARY LANGUAGE

1.

We revealed in the Book of the Most Holy,

2.

"O members of the parliaments throughout the world!

3.

Select ye a single language for the use of all on earth,

and adopt ye likewise a common script.

4.

God, verily, maketh plain for you that which shall profit you

and enable you to be independent of others.

5.

He, verily, of a truth, is the Most Bountiful,

the All- Knowing, the All-Informed.

6.

This irrevocable decree hath been revealed from the immemorial dominion

for the peoples of the world in general

and for those in government in particular

7.

since the completion of the commandments, ordinances, and precepts revealed in the Book

has been entrusted to themen of the divine houses of justice.

8.

This ordinance is the greatest means for the accomplishment of union

and the supreme instrument for the establishment of social interaction and loving fellowship

between the peoples of different lands.

9.

It is evident that most people, due to the dispersion of the languages of the people of the world,

are deprived of social interaction, friendship,

and the acquisition of knowledge and wisdom from one another.

10.

It is thus the case, as a result of the Divine Bounty and Grace,

that all have been commanded to select a language

-whether newly created or from among the existing languages of the earth-

that everyone may converse therein.

11.

When this comes to pass,

the whole earth will be seen as one city due to the fact that

all will comprehend the language of one another,

and thoroughly understand each of their intentions.

12.

This will be the cause of the promotion and the elevation of the world.

13.

Should a person emigrate from his native land and arrive in any other city,

it would be nearly the sameas if he had arrived back in his own homeland.

14.

Hold ye fast unto this directive,

O members of parliaments and civic authorities!

15.

Should a person ponder a little upon this directive

they would easily come to understand

that what has been revealed from the Heaven of the divine will

is an expression of the Divine Bounty,

the benefit of which encompasses all.

16.

Yet, it is the case, that some servants suckle at the breast of negligence and ignorance

in such manner that they transgress that which is beneficial,

the excellence of which is both rationally and traditionally obvious and clear.

17.

These type of servants, with the hypocrisy of wayward souls,

have, and will continue to veil their eyes from that wisdom

that is the basis and the cause of the progress of the world and the elevation of its peoples.

18.

Wherefore, verily, are they in manifest loss.

19.

Every community speaks its own language;

the Turk, for example, in Turkish;

the peoples of Iran, in Persian

and the Arabs in Arabic.

20.

In addition, the people of Europe speak their own diverse languages.

21.

Such multifarious languages are traditional among, and specific to,

these aforementioned communities.

22.

Yet, a further language has now been decreed

to the effect that all the people of the world would converse therein;

so that all will understand the other's language,

and be capable of achieving their respective intentions.

23.

He, verily, is the Gate to love and kindness and to fellowship and unity.

24.

He, verily, is the Most-Great Translator [Interpreter]

and verily the Key to the Ancient Treasury.

25.

How many the souls that are observed spending all their time

in the acquisition of different languages!

26.

What a great pity that persons should spend an entire lifetime

(the most-precious of worldly assets) in this manner.

27.

The purpose of such an individual in these endeavors

is the acquisition of the knowledge of different languages

so that he might understand the intention of other peoples, and what lies within their domain.

28.

Now if mankind would carry out what has been commanded of them, it would suffice all alike

since they would free themselves from numerous impediments [causing separation].

29.

That proposition which is especially beloved, when presented before the Heavenly Throne,

is that all should converse in the Arabic language.

30.

This, inasmuch as it is the most comprehensive of all languages.

31.

If a person were to become truly aware of the comprehensiveness

and the broad scope of this most eloquent language,

they would certainly select Arabic [over other languages,

to be the international auxiliary language.]

32.

The Persian language is extremely sweet.

33.

The tongue of God in this dispensation has revealed in both Arabic and Persian.

34.

Persian, however, does not, and will never have, the magnitude of Arabic.

35.

Indeed, relative to it, [all] [most] languages have been, and will remain, circumscribed.

36.

This is the most-gracious state of affairs which has been mentioned.

37.

The purpose however, is that the people of the earth should select a single language

and that all humanity converse therein.

38.

This is that which hath been ordained by God

and is that which will benefit all mankind if they did but know.

39.

Likewise, in place of the particular scripts of diverse peoples,

a single script should be adopted and all mankind write therein.

40.

Thus will all scripts ultimately be seen as a single script and all languages a single language.

41.

These commandments will jointly be the cause of the union of the hearts and the souls

of the peoples of the world.

42.

He teaches you that which is best for you.

43.

Take firm hold thereof, for He certainly, is the Exhorter, the Counselor,

the Expounder, the Director, the Gracious,

the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.

44.

All languages and scripts will ultimately become one universal speech

and the diverse territories of the earth be seen as a single clime.

45.

Otherwise, therein you shall see moral obliquity,

as opposed to peaceful tranquility.

Hearken ye unto the Call of this Wronged [Servant]!

Tablet of the Scroll of God                                                                                       CHAPTER ONE

Divisions 1-30

in Arabic, from the mid 1880s or after.

A tablet addressed to Jews who are referred to as the "progeny of the Friend", the `Friend of God' Abraham, and to the legacy of the Speaker by whom Moses is inferred. The Bahai introduction is used that refers to Baha-ullah as al-Qayyun (the Independent), elsewhere said to be the Greatest Name. Various recent Hamadani Jewish Baha'i converts are addressed with statements.

SCROLL OF GOD

1.

"This is the Scroll of God, the Help in Peril, the Independent!

2.

It was sent down for the progeny of the Friend [= Abraham]

and the legacy of the Speaker [= Moses, the Jewish community],

on behalf of God, the Mighty and Beauteous.

3.

In My Name, the Help in Peril,

[for those] within the Kingdom of the Explaination (the Bayan)!

4.

This is a Book which was sent down from the heaven of the Divine Will of the All-Merciful

unto whomsoever lieth within the realm of Being,

to the end that it might cause them to be established [and bring them solace] before God,

the Lord of all the worlds.

5.

This is indeed the Day in which the Light hath radiated forth

in view of the fact that the Speaker on the Mount [Sinai]

[Moses = metaphorcially the prophet Baha'-allah]

hath been established upon the Throne of the Divine Manifestation.

6.

And He hath indeed cried out before the visages within the Dominion [of rulers, of kingship],

for unto God belongeth the Might and the Praise.

7.

This is the Day in which the Speaker [Moses] announced the Glad-tidings,

then the Spirit [of prophecy] [Jesus]

8.

and after him Muhammad, the Messenger of God

who appeared from the Dawning-Place of the Cause with brilliant Soverignty.

9.

Thereat did the perfume of the All-Merciful diffuse scent among the regions [countries]

and the [eschatological] Call was upraised amongst the religions!

10.

Blessed then be the ear that hath hearkened [attained] with due attention!

11.

And woe be upon such as merely slumber [unaware thereof]!

12.

He [Baha'-ullah] is indeed the Temple [or tabernacle] through the Most Great Manifestation.

13.

And He hath given all [them] good-tidings of the [eschatological] Day,

the Day whereon the people shall [stand up for judgement] before the Lord of all the worlds.

14.

The Day, that is, when "thy Lord shall indeed come"

or "some of the signs of thy Lord".                                                                            Quran 6:158

15.

Thus did the Beloved [Lord] [Muhammad] cry out [as recorded in the Qur'an]

in view of the fact that [the Archangel] Gabriel gave him the Glad-tidings on the part of God,

the All-Knowing, the Well-Acquainted.

16.

O progeny of the Friend [= Abraham]

and the legacy of the Speaker [=Moses]!

17.

Hearken ye unto the Call of the Glorious [Lord] from the precincts of the Prison [of Acre]!

18.

He shall indeed draw thee near unto the place wherein

the Beauty of the All-Merciful did take his seat upon the Throne of the Explaination (the Bayan),

and He did summon all unto His straight path.

19.

At the moment do We desire that We should make mention of the names of the faithful

for whom this [missive] was despatched.

20.

This such that We might give them the Glad-tidings of the Providence of God,

the One who is the Goal of the Mystic knowers.

21.

O Hayyim!

Thou did indeed approach the divine visage after the annihilation of everything!

22.

And He thus makes mention of thee,

even though He does not guide anything among [created] things unto Himself,

including whatsoever stands before [worldly] kings and sovereigns.

23.

We heard thy call and thy petition and We made mention of thee aforetime,

just as We now make mention of the One whom God made to be

the key of the treasury of knowledge and wisdom, for He is the Powerful, the Mighty.

24.

He indeed is the [Lord God] the One Who hath ridiculed the world aforetime,

and hath ornamented it with the Ornament of the Wondrous Visagee

which hath shed brilliant light from the Horizon of the Sun of Trustworthiness and Benevolence.

25.

So blessed then be unto the mystic knowers.

26.

Through every single letter of His verses, there hath ever been [generated] a heaven,

although it is the heaven [possessed] of suns, moons, and stars,

around whom no one can circumambulate, except God [Himself], the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.

27.

So blessed be unto thee for thou hath discovered the Perfume which hath enraptured thy soul,

even as a Pathway unto God, the Monarch of this Manifest Day!

28.

O Rahim!

The [true eschatological] Judge (Hakim Hayyim?) hath come from the horizon of Power

with [revealed] verses, bedazzling rays, and luminous explainatinons,

though the people remain [wrapped up] within an impenetrable veil.

29.

The Day hath indeed come

and there hath appeared the radiating brilliance

which was concealed in the (pearly) shell of the enigmas [clouds] of knowledge and wisdom,

a Cause from God, the Help in Peril,

for whomsoever is in the heavens or upon the earth[s].

30.

So be thou consumed within the Fire light of the Lote-Tree of My Cause evanescent

because of the Lights of My Manifestation

and crying out about My praiseworthyness which is Beauteous.

Tablet of the Scroll of God                                                                                      CHAPTER TWO

Divisions 31-60

31.

O Sulayman-Solomon!

Say:

`O concourse of the earth!

By God! He hath opened the Gate of Heaven!

32.

And the King of Names hath indeed come down

with a Sovereignty which cannot be withheld by the [evil doing] legions of all the worlds.

33.

Nor indeed withheld by the powerful influences of the nations

or by the machinations [clamour] of the divines.

34.

Nor indeed withheld  by the reputations [accidental activities] of the ruling classes

or the supplication of all near the supreme horizon,

the locale in which there was upraised the Call that

`Dominion is of the Bright King of this [eschatological Day!', O Yehuda-Judah!

35.

Thy Supreme Lord summoneth thee on the part of God, the Mighty, the Powerful,

unto that which He hath ordained for the people of Baha'.

36.

So Blessed be the tongue that hath confessed that which the Tongue of Grandeur crieth out through Him in the Most Elevated Station

and acknowledged God and in His verses that have encompassed all the horizons.

37.

By God! He emanates through the dust of this prison,

the perfumed scent of the Bayan, through the knowledge of the All-Merciful,

that which hath ever been hidden in the [sacred] Books of God, the Lord of the elevated Pedestal!

38.

Hearken ye then unto the Call yet another time from the right-hand side of the Luminous Spot,

`Verily He, no God is there except Him, the Peerless, the Bright, the Beloved.

39.

Beware lest thou weaken over the croaking of the people of the Furqan

or the opposition of the people of the Bayan

40.

who have broken the covenant of God and His Testament

and have disbelieved in what was sent down [revealed] on His behalf

for He is indeed the All-Knowing, the All-Wise!

41.

O Hayyim!

Mention was [previously] made of thee yet We come to mention thee again!

42.

This to the end that thou rejoice and be numbered among such as are thankful.
