Tablet of the Travelling Bed
Written at the shore of the Black Sea
Having intimated the full measure of his claim to independent Manifestationhood unto a few of his trusted devotees, Bahā'-Allāh left Baghdad for Constantinople / Istanbul on May 3rd 1863 accompanied by certain members of his family and disciples.
Having passed through Kirkuk, Mosul, and Diyabakir, the Bābī exiles arrived at Sāmsūn, a port on the shore of the Black Sea, in early August 1863. It was on sighting the Black Sea in the vicinity Sāmsūn that the Lawḥ-i Sāmsūn was written by Bahā'-ullāh.
Bahā'-ullāh was carried on a litter (bed), (Persian howdah) during this stage of the journey to the Ottoman capital, that he revealed the tablet. At the sighting of the Black Sea from the howdah the tablet was communicated. The tablet of Sāmsūn is said to have been revealed by Bahā'-ullāh at the request of his amanuensis and scribe Mīrzā Āqā Jān Kāshānī.

SAMSUN
1.
These are verses which were disclosed in the Pavilion of Eternity and the Howdah of Holiness
at the moment when the Greatest Name arrived at the precinct of majesty in the land of Sāmsūn,
at the shore of a mighty ocean.
2.
Then did the hosts of the inspiration of God descend, so splendidly ornamented,
that all who are in the heavens and on earth were thunderstruck thereat.
3.
Before them did the Sun of the Divine Beauty radiate forth in an holy, ethereal Temple
and addressed the Ark, the like of that which had streamed forth from the Pen of God aforetime,
4.
in a Tablet in which We addressed the Holy Mariner with a secret, sorrowful Call,
and in accordance with what hath this moment been sent down in this Tablet from an holy, luminous Pen.
5.
And whomsoever desires to comprehendthe mysteries of the Command
on the part of [a Lord] Wise, All-Knowing,
let such an one consider these two tablets
and thus become cognizant of the mysteries of God;
their eyes solaced thereby and [servants] numbered among such as are possessed of certainty.
6.
The times of reclining in the Howdah of Holiness hath been completed
and the Beauty of the Divine Essence hath emerged unto a mighty, noble panorama.
7.
Say:
`The terrestrial journey hath found completion at the shore of a mighty ocean.'
8.
At this did the Howdah of Immortality weep,
and a luminous Ship of Holiness rejoice.
9.
O Holy Mariner!
The promise hath come to pass just as We promised thee through a sure and knowing Tongue.
10.
So be of good cheer within thine heart that the Logos-Person of God,
which is nothing except Him,
might embark upon the Ark through this novel yet ancient Command.
11.
Before thee shall be made manifest all that We, in very truth, promised thee,
if thou art patient.
12.
We announced unto thee aforetime all that hath come to pass

We made them to be heedless thereof on account of that which their hands hath wrought,
and this certainly is merely manifest justice.

O Fathomless Deep of the Divine Might!
Be exhilarated within thy spirit for the Fathomless Deep of God,
the Most-Elevated, the Mighty, the Powerful, hath compassed thee about.
5.
So be thou gladdened, for about thee are transported those that are near unto God.

And at this moment hath all atoms reoriented [their gaze],
risen up in thine atmosphere, and are of such as look on,
for the Breezes of Holiness passeth over them from the Shore of the Divine Union,
from this Enshrouded, Veiled, Concealed, Manifest, Apparent, and Hidden Riḍwān.
7.
So blessed be they and such as hath entered beneath His shadow,
been ennobled with the Meeting with Him,
drunk deep of His Cup, [of holy teachigns that inebriate the reader]
and taken hold on His strong and Firm Cord.
8.
In this manner have We graciously conferred divine favor upon those of former and of latter times, and sent down from the Clouds of Holiness
that which serves to purify the hearts of such as are possessed of divine knowledge.
9.
And We have decreed the Robe of Guidance for all things
should they give assent to Him and be of the truly pious.

Thus hath been decreed in the Heaven of the Divine Command
that which is the cause of the enrichment of all the worlds.

THE SERVANTS
1.
This is the chapter of the Servants.
2.
It indeed, in very truth, was revealed on the part of God, the Exalted, the Mighty.
3.
It is assuredly a revelation which cometh from One All-Knowing, All-Wise.
4.
In the Name of God, the Supreme Creator,
the Supreme Creator [Most Innovative / Wondrous]!
5.
God testifieth that there is no God save Him
and We, one and all, are merely His servants.
6.
God testifieth that there is no God save Him
and We, one and all, are merely His servants.
7.
God testifieth that there is no God save Him
and We, one and all, are but His servants.
8.
God testifieth that there is no God save Him
and We, one and all, are but His servants.
9.
God testifieth that there is no God save Him
and We, one and all, are but His servants.

written in Powerful and Mighty scriptural Tablets.

Nobody knoweth this except He,
Him who is the Help in Peril, the Mighty, the All-Powerful.
22.
No one is aware of this except whomsoever his Lord ordaineth.
23.
This accords with a Command [Cause] about which We informed thee aforetime
as would be evident should thou be reckoned among the truly aware.
24.
So hearken ye unto my counsel!
25.
Then also unto that which the Tongue of God hath articulated in this wondrous era.
26.
So beware lest any single thing deter thee or any matter hold thee back.
27.
Then hearken ye within thine own heart
and strive ye with thine own essence
that thou be numbered among the righteous with respect to this Cause,
over which persons accounted mystical initiates were startled,
the inhabitants of the pavilions of certitude made apprehensice,
then the spirits of such as are nigh unto God thunderstruck.

"Contemplate with thine inward eye the chain of successive Revelations
that hath linked the Manifestation of Adam with that of the Báb.
29.
I testify before God that each one of these Manifestations hath been sent down
through the operation of the Divine Will and Purpose,
that each hath been the bearer of a specific Message,
that each hath been entrusted with a divinely-revealed Book
and been commissioned to unravel the mysteries of a mighty Tablet.
30.
The measure of the revelation with which every [prophetic manifestation] hath been identified
had been definitely fore-ordained.
31.
This, verily, is a token of Our favor unto them,
if ye be of those that comprehend this truth.
32.
And when this process of progressive Revelation culminated in the stage
at which His peerless, His most sacred, and exalted Visage was to be unveiled to men’s eyes,
He chose to hide His own person behind a thousand veils,
lest profane and mortal eyes discover His glory.
33.
This He did at a time when the signs and tokens of a divinely-appointed revelation
were being showered upon Him—
signs and tokens which none can reckon except the Lord, your God, the Lord of all worlds.
34.
And when the set time of concealment was fulfilled,
We sent forth, whilst still wrapt within a myriad veils,
an infinitesimal glimmer of the effulgent Glory enveloping the Face of the Youth,
and lo, the entire company of the dwellers of the Realms above were seized with violent commotion and the favored of God fell down in adoration before Him.
35.
He hath, verily, manifested a glory such as none in the whole creation hath witnessed,
inasmuch as He hath arisen to proclaim in person His Cause
unto all who are in the heavens and all who are on the earth."

SUBLIMITIES
1.
This is the chapter of the Sublimities.
2.
It was revealed on the part of God, the Transcendent, the Supremely Transcendent,
as a proof for whomseoever is in the heavens or upon the earth(s).
3.
He is the Eternal, the All-Knowing God within the Heaven of Eternity.
4.
Praised be He who offereth glory before Him;
All, whether they be in the heavens or upon the earth.
5.
He indeed hath ever been All-Encompassing of everything.
6.
Before Him areprostrate whomsoever is in the Heaven of the Divine Command and of creation.
7.
He indeed hath ever been omnipotent over all things.
8.
He hath decreed the measures of all things in tablets
and clarified for His servants what will draw them nigh unto a Beauty,
magnified be His Wonderful Ways.
9.
He sent down from the Heaven of the Command, mighty and powerful verses
and made them to be a proof that cometh from Him unto all the worlds.
10.
And He sent the Messengers proclaiming that
He, no God is there except Him.
11.
This Youth is indeed His Baha (theophanic Glory-Splendor)
as well as His Might and His Grandeur unto whomseoever is in the heavens or upon the earth.
12.
To this does God Himself bear witness with the Tongue of Power and Might.
13.
He is indeed Witness unto all things.
14.
And among them (Messengers) was He upon whose heart came inspiration
through the Spirit of Faith.
15.
And among them (Messengers) was He to whom was sent down
divine inspiration by means of allusions which were sacred and hidden away.
16.
And among them (Messengers) was He unto whom was
sent down the Holy Spririt in the form of a [well-proportioned] shapely Archangel.

And among them [the Messengers] was He with whom God held outer conversation,
in such wise that none can even make befitting mention thereof.
18.
Yea, indeed there was [in this, latter instance] separation
despite the manifestation of the sovereignty of union;
such that is, as is outside of either allusion or explanation.
19.
And among them [the Messengers] was He who cried out within His Logos-Person
unto His Logos-Person sanctified through the assistance of all else except Him.
20.
So exalted be He who experienced such an expression of Divine Bounty which even every purified mystic knower [gnostic] was interdicted from understanding.
21.
And whomsoever announceth the deep knowledge of this station certainly lied,
22.
and thus hath ever been numbered among such caluminators
as are written down [accounted such] in the Preserved Tablets.
23.
They will ever prove unable to acquire within themselves the confirmations of the Spirit.
24.
These are the weak ones among the servants.
25.
He hath ever been independent thereof, and transcendent above all the worlds.
26.
The Holy Spirit conferreth confirmation through a command
which originateth with Him for the very Spirit of the Cause that circumambulates about Him.
27.
Such is the foundation of the Cause.
28.
"Thus hath the Spirit cried out upon the twigs of the Lote-Tree of knowledge,
on the part of the Mighty, the Praiseworthy.
29.
Say:
`This Day nobody hath proved able to breathe a single thing, other then out of love for Me.
30.
And God is indeed witness unto that which I say.

THE ROBE OF JOSEPH
1.
This is the Chapter of the Garment.
2.
We, in very truth, sent it down as a Manifestation of My Temple [Persona] betwixt all the worlds!
3.
In the Name of God, the Most Holy, the Most Holy
and In His Name of the Resplendent, the All-Glorious.
4.
O citizens of subsistent eternity amidst the Supreme Concourse!
5.
Hearken ye unto the Call of God from this lively breeze
that echoes in this remindful atmosphere beneath this intimate, gracious Heaven.
6.
He who voices these words is indeed the Muezzin,
the person Who invites the people to prayer,
to the Most Great Pilgrimage.
7.
This through this Greatest Word that stands up above
the temple of the cosmic script in this Book.
8.
This on account of the Pen of Might
and by virtue of that Divine Grace which is hidden away.
9.
Say:
He indeed is the Most Great Book which was sealed up with the Seal of God,
hidden beyond the veils of the Unseen and treasured up in the Treasuries of Might.
10.
He, in very truth, was made manifest through the Divine Grace
in the form of the Divine Justice
during those days which were, in very truth, foreordained."

O Solace of the Spirit!
Send ye down upon the realms of the possible from the heaven of Thy Bounty
