UFA STATE PETROLEUM TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY

Ufa State Petroleum Technological University was established on the basis of Moscow Petroleum Institute, which was evacuated in 1941 during World War II. In 1943 the Institute returned to Moscow and a branch with 150 students was formed in Ufa. In October 1948 the branch was reorganized into the Ufa Petroleum Institute, and was later granted the status of the University in 1994. Currently the university trains students in ten departments: Oil and Gas Mining, Technological, Economics and Automation of Production, Pipeline Transportation, Architectural and Building Engineering, Geology and Geophysics, Humanities, Foreign Students, Correspondence Courses and self-funded Scientific Complex with the authorities of the Department “Machinery and Apparatus of Chemical Industry”.

“Alongside with the preservation and consolidation of traditions, today the higher educational institution needs such structure of specialists, which would not only depend on the teaching staff but also provide experts for new perspective technologies”

A.M.Shammazov, Doctor of Science (Technology), Professor, Rector of UGNTU (Ufa State Technological University).

MY SPECIALITY – CIVIL ENGINEERING

Architecture and Civil Engineering Department of the Ufa State Petroleum Technological University trains architects, civil and sanitary engineers. Young people choose the profession of a civil engineer because it is rather easy for an engineer or architect to find a well-paid job or start their own business in this country. Besides, to see the results of their own work, its necessity and beauty gives much pleasure to a builder.

Construction is divided into industrial, agricultural, road, housing and others. Housing construction is carried out on a large scale in our country. Builders construct and reconstruct palaces of culture, theatres, museums, schools, kindergartens, hospitals, houses and industrial buildings.

Designing a building, an architect should consider structural principles, materials, and social and economic requirements. They should always keep in mind three basic aims of building – convenience, strength and beauty, as any building is built because of some definite human need, either practical or emotional, or both. Every building should be pleasant in appearance, strong and durable. The interior must be comfortable and meet the demands of the occupants.

The development of construction industry depends on many other industries. Great attention is paid to building materials industry. It supplies the construction industry with essential materials.

In order to be a good specialist an engineer must know mathematics, geodesy, the qualities of building materials, the scale and the specifications and many other subjects. They should be well qualified and have a good command of building techniques and methods. They must be able to read technical drawings of the project. The aim of a civil engineer is to provide our people with all modern conveniences – such as water, electricity, ventilation, heating system.
