More Big 3 sessions on the way

The International Herald Tribune

PARIS: The leaders of Germany, France, and Britain will meet again in a Big Three summit resembling the get-together that was held on Wednesday in Berlin.

"People are going to have to get used to this format," German government sources quoted by the German press agency DPA said late Wednesday night after a working dinner attended by Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, President Jacques Chirac and Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The Associated Press’s Germanlanguage news service, citing the same government sources, said the leaders would attempt, in close consultation, to agree on their foreign and European policy positions in the future. Key ministers from the Big Three would continue to meet alongside the leaders.

The reports seemed to be clear evidence that the Big Three summit meetings were in the process of institutionalization.

The trilateral meetings were not expected to affect regular one-on-one contacts among the leaders.
