The CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of Google Larry Page has told European governments they need to be more like Silicon Valley. He said European leaders do not support technology companies enough. Silicon Valley is home to many of the world's largest technology corporations. Google, Apple and Facebook have their headquarters there. Mr Page said Silicon Valley is a great place for technology companies because it is easy to do business there. He told Britain's 'Financial Times' newspaper that Silicon Valley was great for investing in science and for making money by setting up new technology companies. He said Europe's politicians needed to start investing in big ideas.

Mr. Page told the Financial Times he had $62 billion that he wanted to invest in new ideas. He said he wanted to use the money to benefit societies in Europe. He said: "We're trying to figure it out. How do we use all these resources  and have a much more positive impact on the world?" Page is not the first business leader to attack Europe for being slow with investing in technology. Many experts say European schools do not teach enough technology, so children do not have the skills that kids in Silicon Valley have. Many leaders in education believe there should be a much bigger focus on technology in schools. Some think all elementary schools should have classes on coding for children.

A scientist said robots will be more intelligent than humans by 2029. The scientist's name is Ray Kurzweil. He works for Google as Director of Engineering. He is one of the world's leading experts on artificial intelligence (A.I.). Mr Kurzweil believes computers will be able to learn from experiences, just like humans. He also thinks they will be able to tell jokes and stories, and even flirt. Kurzweil's 2029 prediction is a lot sooner than many people thought. The scientist said that in 1999, many A.I. experts said it would be hundreds of years before a computer was more intelligent than a human. He said that it would not be long before computer intelligence is one billion times more powerful than the human brain.

Mr Kurzweil joked that many years ago, people thought he was a little crazy for predicting computers would be as intelligent as humans. His thinking has stayed the same but everyone else has changed the way they think. He said: "My views are not radical any more. I've actually stayed consistent. It's the rest of the world that's changing its view." He highlighted examples of high-tech things we use, see or read about every day. These things make us believe that computers have intelligence. He said people think differently now: "Because the public has seen things like Siri [the iPhone's voice-recognition technology] where you talk to a computer; they've seen the Google self-driving cars."

Rats that are the size of sheep might be a good horror movie story. However, scientists from the University of Leicester in England say that in the future, there could really be giant rats on the Earth. They could be as big as sheep and weigh up to 80kg. Rats are spreading all over the Earth. They are now the strongest animals on many small islands. One of the reasons for this is that they travel on ships and relocate to areas that never had rats before. Another reason is that many larger animals are becoming extinct, so there are fewer animals that might kill rats. Researcher Dr Jan Zalasiewicz said: "Given enough time, rats could probably grow to be…the world's largest rodent."

Dr. Zalasiewicz said rats are one of the best examples of a species that we have spread around the world, and have successfully adapted to many of the new environments. He said: "There will be future thin rats, future fat rats, slow and heavy rats, fast and ferocious rats, probably future aquatic rats - the list goes on." After the dinosaurs died out, many small animals slowly grew bigger and bigger. The same thing could happen with rats if there are no animals left that hunt and kill them. Dr Zalasiewicz also believes that "super-rats" will start killing other species to make them extinct. This will have a big impact on food chains. He did not say what humans would do about giant rats running around everywhere.
