Disadvantages of After-School Clubs

After-school clubs can be a lifesaver for working parents, but they still have some drawbacks.

These include:

some clubs are only open during school term

these forms of childcare, is not as cheap as it used to be

activities are often more fun than educational

can be tiring for children who sometimes feel that their school day has been extended by another some hours.

busy students have less time to spend at home with their families

after-school clubs often require parents to purchase expensive equipment and uniforms

3. Animal rights

Arguments for Animal testing

Animals are used in important scientific research

It is necessary to do medical tests on new drugs

Animal testing helps to advance medical and scientific knowledge

Animal testing has contributed too many life-saving cures and treatments

Many important medical discoveries involved experimentation on animals

Animals suffer from similar diseases to humans including cancers, TB, flu and asthma.

Medical teams carry out new operating techniques such as transplant organs on animals.

By testing on animals scientists have developed thousands of vaccines that have saved millions of children's lives

Without animal testing many procedures or new drugs would be extremely unsafe.

Animal research is highly regulated, with laws in place to protect animals from mistreatment

Animals are appropriate research subjects because they are similar to human beings in many ways

Animals must be used in cases when ethical considerations prevent the use of human subjects

Animals also have the right to live, and the right to choose. Animals have emotions. They have thoughts, ideas, feelings

The vast majority of biologists of the world endorse animal testing

Some cosmetics and health care products must be tested on animals to ensure their safety

Researchers aim to minimize the suffering that animals experience

Testing for the cosmetics industry is now banned in many countries

Our responsibility is to manage the animals in our care and balance their suffering against the good that comes from them

Arguments against Animal Testing

The benefits of research using animals do not justify the suffering caused

Animal experiments are cruel, unreliable, ineffective, inhuman and even dangerous

Animal tests do not reliably predict results in human beings

Animals have feelings and suffer from pain during the experiments.

During the experiments animals are in an unusual environment, so they might feel scared and stressed, therefore, the results will not be accurate.

There are alternative methods of research such as bio-engineering and computer modeling that provide us more accurate results

Alternative testing methods now exist that can replace the need for animals:

Computer models, such as virtual reconstructions of human molecular structures, can predict the toxicity of substances without invasive experiments on animals.

Artificial human skin is made from sheets of human skin cells grown in test tubes and can produce more useful results than testing chemicals on animal skin

The lives of animals should be respected

Animal tests are more expensive than alternative methods and are a waste of government money

Drugs that pass animal tests are not necessarily safe

Humans have no moral right to do experiments on animals

Arguments for Vegetarianism

Vegetarians do not eat foods that are produced by killing animals

Many people choose a vegetarian diet for moral or health reasons

A healthy diet is possible without eating meat

It is unnecessary to kill animal for food

A vegetarian diet may reduce the risk of disease like cancer
