Great Britain is only major country in the world, which does not have a written constitution set out in a single document.
The British Government sits in London. Great Britain is a limited or constitutional or parliamentary monarchyheaded by Queen Elizabeth 2 now. Parliament, which consists of twohouses: the House of Commons and the House of Lords. England was a first country to have a Parliament.
The leader of the majority party becomes the Prime Minister. From the 60 ministers in the government Prime Minister chooses the smaller group of about 20, called the Cabinet. At present there are four political parties inEngland.

Technologically, the UK is also amongst the world's leaders. The UK remains one of theleading providers of technological innovations today, providing inventions as diverse as the World Wide Web and Viagra. The UK was the first country in the world to industrialize the 18th and 19th centuries, and for much of the 19th century possessed a predominant role in the global economy. The United Kingdom is one of the world's most globalized countries. The capital, London is a major financial center of the world. It is one of the strongest EU economies in terms of inflation, interest rates and unemployment, all of which remain relatively low. During August2008the UK economic outlook has worsened.Manufacturing is an important sector of the modem British economy and there is a considerable amount of published research on the subject of the factors affecting its growth and performance. Britain continues to be one of the most attractive countries in the world for direct foreign industrial investment. The United Kingdom is a member of the European Union(EU).

Since the first artificial splitting of the atom at Cambridge.Britain's nuclear scientists have made continuous progress in atomic energy. Today eight commercial nuclear power stations are supplying electricity for factories and homes and others are being built. Some of Britain's top scientists are engaged in space research and in work on satellite communications. Others are making vital discoveries in the laboratory into the verynature of life itself.
Britain is pre-eminent in radio astronomy and in many fields of electronics. Much basic work was done in Britain on electronic computers. British advances in medicine include penicillin and other-antibiotics and many other important developments in the treatment of disease.
British contributions to science include many great discoveries linked with famous names - Sir Isaac Newton, Michael Faraday, Henry Cavendish and many others.
Since 1946 27 British scientists have received international recognition for their work by gaining Nobel awards. In ten years Britain has doubled her total number of qualified scientists.
