Topic # 7. The English language
Two thousand years ago English didn’t exist. A thousand year ago it was a language used by less than 2 million people. Now it is the most influential language in the world spoken by more than a billion people on the planet as their first, second or third language. English currently dominates science, business, the mass media and popular culture.
It is used in science & technology, trade & cultural relations, commerce & business, in aviation, shipping and sports. Thousands of books, magazines and newspapers are printed in English
English is the official language of Great Britain, USA, Australia& New Zealand. In Canada, the SouthAfricanRepublic, India&Bangladesh, the IrishRepublic and in some Arab countries English plays a very important role being the second official language in these countries.
Millions of people learn and use English as a foreign language. In our country English is very popular among the young people and the people of middle age.
English is used for communication between people who don’t know other languages. English is very common and very useful for businessmen& scientists, sportsmen & singers, engineers & managers in different branches of industry.
English takes a lot of time, patience & nerves. But actually knowing English is absolutely necessary for every educated person & good specialist.
