OUR UNIVERSITY
Ufa State Petroleum Technological University is one of the largest and most prestigious universities not only in Bashkortostan, but in Russia too. It trains young people to become specialists in oil and gas industry. Our university was founded in 1948 as Ufa Oil Institute and in 1993 it was awarded a university status. It has 3 branches (in Salavat, Sterlitamak and Oktyabrskiy cities) and trains about 14,000 students at nine departments. They are:
1. Oil and Gas Mining 6. Institute of Oil and Gas Business
2. Automation 7. Institute of Architecture and Building
3. Pipeline Transportation Engineering
4. Mechanical 8. Department of general scientific subjects
5. Technological 9. Extra-mural department
The course of studies lasts 4 years for a Bachelor’s degree and 2 years more – for a Master’s degree. The academic year begins on the first of September; it lasts nine months and is divided into two terms. Students take exams at the end of each term. Twice a year students have vacations – two weeks in winter and two months in summer.
First-and-second year students learn fundamental sciences, such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, technical drawing, computer engineering and a number of others. It is known that the knowledge of general engineering subjects is necessary for future specialists. We also learn foreign languages, philosophy, history, ethics, speech communication and others.
Third-year students begin to concentrate on their major subjects, and take many courses on these subjects. Specialized study helps students to become well educated persons and prepares them for their future work. We have got a lot of equipped classrooms, laboratories, libraries, computer centres, workshops to provide high level of training.
