Higher education in Russia

 

1. Higher education plays an important role in the development of any country.

2. It provides the country with highly-qualified specialists.

3. There are more than 700 higher education institutions in Russia.

4. They are headed by Rectors.

5. Pro-rectors are in charge of academic and scientific work.

6. Universities have a number of faculties.

7. They are headed by Deans.

8. Universities have a highly-qualified staff.

9. Education is given on a full-time and part-time basis.

10. In our country the academic year begins in September and ends in June.

11. It is divided into two terms or semesters.

12. At the end of each semester students take exams.

13. Twice a year students have vacations.

14. Attendance of all seminars, practical classes and labs is obligatory for all students.

15. At the first and second years students study general subjects such as maths, physics, humanities and others.

16. At the third year they begin to study special subjects to get more advanced knowledge.

17. Special attention is given to practical training at industrial enterprises.

18. After four years of study students get a Bachelor’s degree.

19. Then they can continue their studies and in a year or two of further study students get a Master’s degree.

20. Universities also possess various training facilities: classrooms, laboratories, computer-centers and so on.

21. Universities have students hostels and sport centers.
