DESCRIPTION: • There is a natural relationship academic reading and word learning, Inside Reading is a four-level reading and vocabulary series designed to use this relationship to best advantage. Through principled instruction and practice with reading strategies and skills, students will increase their ability to comprehend reading material. Likewise, through a principled approach to the complex nature of vocabulary knowledge, learners will better understand how to make sense of the complex nature of academic word learning. Inside Reading 3 is intended for students at the high-intermediate level.
COURSE OUTCOMES:
On completion of this course the students will be able to
• use effectively extensive reading strategies;
• develop an ever-expanding fund of recognized words and their meanings;
• read not just for information or to perform a task, but also for pleasure;
• establish personally relevant reading goals.
REQUIREMENTS: ( Important )
· Attendance counts! If students are late more than 5 minutes for class and/or if students leave class early, it will count as an absence. IAAU attendance policy will be strictly followed.
· Students may miss only 16 hours of class. Medical reports or other documents are NOT accepted according to the principles of the university. So, students are recommended to miss those 16 hours only in case of emergency.
· It is students’ responsibility to arrange their work hours, child-care and appointments etc. so they do not conflict with class. If students are absent, they must ask their group mates to get missed assignments and review the main points of the lesson. (you get no extra credit for attending class.)
If you miss a class, YOU are responsible for finding out what you missed and for making up any work that you missed
CLASSROOM ETIQUETTE ( Important )
· Work quietly and respectfully in class with no side conversations at the tables, except during assigned activities.
· TURN OFF TELEPHONES! Leaving to answer phones, going to the restroom, coming in excessively late or seeing a counselor are not acceptable.

· Moving around the room or falling asleep during a lecture is also not acceptable. STAY IN YOUR SEAT THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE CLASS!
· You will be asked to leave if your behavior is inappropriate and it will be considered an absence.
· Students are not allowed to walk or chat loudly with each other during the lesson without a tutor’s permission. If a student ignores the tutor’s remarks, uses offensive words or offensive body language, leaves the classroom early and without the teacher’s permission, is late for classes or insults other students and the teacher, behaves in an arrogant manner or in any other inappropriate way, the student will be severely punished including expulsion from the university
Class assignment and grading
This class is a credit class: however, to pass this class, you must be earning a 60 % (C) average or better by the end of the semester. All TEST GRADES are based on a percentage unless otherwise stated. Your midterm and semester grade will be based on the following:
MIDTERM: ( max 100 % )
1. Active and Meaningful participation in Classroom Discussions: 10 %
This means that you make your own comments, ask questions, listen to others attentively and express your own original opinions. Try to find convincing arguments to support your viewpoints. Home assignments
2. Term assignment ::10 %
Multiple Choice Question : Ss are required to write one multiple choice question for each text. The questions are supposed to be logical. Ss are to follow these rules ; typed, New Times Roman, Size 12, Full name typed ( on the first page, at the top). In case of not following them, the grade will be affected.
3. Ss in two choose a topic and find an article related to that article, then they talk about it in the class. Each student talks for 5 min. 10 %
Note : Ss are recommended to discuss the topic with the instructor

3. Quiz: 20% ( The date is shown above)
4. Examination: 50 % ( No extra time is given to students who come late to class on those days )
FINAL EXAM: ( max 100 % )

Make-up works
Make-up examinations will be given only in cases of extreme emergency. You are expected to notify me as soon as possible and to discuss you circumstances with me and write a letter to the head of the department asking for a make up examination that you missed. Do not otherwise assume that you will be permitted to take a make-up exam. However, you are recommended not to miss any examinations.
Cheating/Plagiarism
Student will be asked to leave a room for cheating and gets 0 (zero) for exam

IMPORTANT: Students are required to turn the responses to reading assignments in to each class in written form and be ready to give a response orally.
Note:
· The contents of this syllabus may be changed as needed
· It is the responsibility of each student to know what changes
· My campus e-mail is for messages or course-related inquiries only;
· no papers will be accepted for grading via e-mail (always submit hard copy on the date due)
· Students are also expected to bring the textbook, or a copy of each reading assignment as we will review and discuss the assignments.
If there are any changes, students will be informed.
