Sport in Great Britain.
British people are very fond of sports. The two most popular games are football and cricket. Football is the most popular sport in the United Kingdom. England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own Football Leagues and national teams. There are a lot of professional and amateur clubs all over Britain.
Cricket is the English national game, too. It is often played in schools, colleges, universities and at clubs.
The main spectator sport in British life is horse-racing. The Derby is the most famous horse-racing contest in the world.
The British get pleasure from motor-car racing, dog-racing and boat-racing. They also like to play golf, baseball, hockey, grass-hockey.
A great number of people in Britain play and watch tennis. The most famous British tennis tournament is Wimbledon.
To keep fit and relax many people take part in individual sports: they go walking, swimming, cycling or do aerobics. One of the most popular individual sports for men is fishing. A lot of fishmen sit beside rivers and lakes catching a fish.
Some British people prefer to go to the sports centers. There are about 2000 sports centers in Britain. In the morning many people follow fitness classes shown on TV.
