I’d like to tell you about Canada. Canada is an independent federative state. It is one of the most developed countries.

Canada consists of ten provinces and two territories. It is situated on the North American continent. In size Canada is the second in the world after Russia. The capital of Canada is Ottawa, which is situated on the bank of the Ottawa River. It is famous for its beautiful parks. It is also known as the city of bridges. Official languages of Canada are English and French. Ice hockey is the most popular sport in the country. Mounties are the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They are called Mounties because in the past they rode on horses. They are the symbol of Canada and easy to recognize because they wear cowboy hats and a bright red uniform called Red Serge. Maple trees are grown all over Canada and there is a maple leaf in the middle of the Canadian flag. Canadians make maple syrup with the sap or juice from maple tree. That’s all I’d like to tell you about Canada.

I’d like to tell you about my future career. Nowadays the most popular jobs among teenagers are IT-jobs. Our life becomes more and more computerized, we use IT technologies everywhere. As for me I'd like to become a dentist. Every person has teeth and everyone sooner or later has some dental problems. Doctors say that many health problems start because of rotten teeth. I'd like to help people to remain healthy, help them to obtain the snow-white smile. Scientists develop new technologies in the dental medicine. And maybe one day the dental care will become painless and even enjoyable. I think I'll become a good specialist, because I really care about people, I want to help them and I want them to be healthy. That’s all I’d like to tell you about my future career.

Task 1

Give a 1,5 – 2 minute talk on reading.

Remember to say:

· why people read books and what sort of books;

· what your favourite book is;

· why you think people will never stop reading (or books will soon disappear).

I’d like to tell you about reading. There is a saying: " People stop to think, when they stop to read." And it is certainly true. I think that we can’t live without them. I consider that books are with us during all our life. My mother says that books help us in self-education. The book teaches the "culture of the mind", trains attention, memory and fills disciplined mind. We learn a lot of interesting things from books. I like to read books about travels. I travelled with the heroes of the stories. I saw many interesting places and learned a lot of important facts about other countries and people. In ancient times books were written by hand. It was difficult to write a book with a pen. Then printing came into our life. Printing played an important role in the development of literature and culture. Now there are a lot of books in the shops, there are many books in our flats. But it is difficult to buy all books which we want to read. That’s why we buy books in online-shop. Last year I read a very interesting book "An American Tragedy" by Theodore Dreiser. This novel was published at the beginning of the 20th century. The novel describes the tragic fate of a boy and a girl, Clyde and Roberta by name. It is a sad story. This novel was written many years ago, but it is popular nowadays. There are some problems in our life and sometimes it is difficult to solve them. I think that books can help us. Books must be our friends during all our life. That’s all I’d like to tell you about reading.
