TAPE SCRIPTS

Part I. You will hear a student asking the social organizer of his school for information about

organized trips. Listen and complete the notes below using NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS

AND/OR A NUMBER for each answer. TRACK 03

MAN: Good morning.

WOMAN: Good morning. How can I help you?

MAN: I understand that the school organizes ... umm, trips to different

WOMAN: Yes, we run five every months: three during weekends and two Wednesday afternoon trips.

MAN: What sort of places?

WOMAN: It varies, but always places of historical interest and also which offer a variety of shopping, and then we go for ones where we know there are guided tours, because this gives a good focus for the visit.

MAN: Do you travel far?

WOMAN: Well, our visits are less than three hours’ drive.

MAN: How much do they cost?

WOMAN: Between five and fifteen pounds a head, depending on distance.

MAN: Ah ha

WOMAN: Oh, and we do offer to arrange special trips if there are more than twelve people.

MAN: And what are the times normally?

WOMAN: We leave at eight - thirty a.m. and return at six p.m. We figure it’s best to keep the day fairly short.

MAN: And how do we reserve a place?

WOMAN: You sign your name on the notice board 3 days in advance. Do you know where it is?

MAN: Ah ha. I saw it this morning.

Part II. Listen to the passage and decide if the statements are true (T) or false (F). TRACK 04

The big problem for plane - manufactures in the future is the size of the airplanes, not their speed

because the skies are already full of air traffic, some countries are planning to make new super - planes

and reduce the number of planes in the skies. Those new planes will be much bigger than the planes we

see today. They will be able to carry up to eight hundred people at one time.

At the moment, a billion people travel on airplanes a year but this number will be a lot of higher by the

year 2020. The best way to avoid traffic jam in the skies is to build bigger planes. Plane - manufactures

are working to turn their designs into real super - planes. Ten years from now, we may possibly be

travelling on a super - plane for the first time.
