action actors animation blockbusters cameo camera character comedy critic documentary extra genre horror plot projector scenes sci-fi screen sequel setting star theater ticket usher

Parts of the Movie:

The place or time a movie takes place is called the setting. What happens in a movie is called the plot. A movie is usually broken up into many scenes. The movie is filmed with a camera.

People in Movies:

The people who act in the movie are actors. A character is a part that an actor plays. The main actor is sometimes called the star. When a famous person has a short appearance in a film it is called a cameo. An extra is an unimportant person who acts in the background. A critic is a person who watches movies and writes reviews about them.

Movie Genres:

The type of movie is the movie genre. A movie that makes you laugh is a comedy. A movie that makes you scream is a horror. A movie that is exciting with lots of guns and explosions is an action movie. Movies about the future or space are known as sci-fi films. And a movie about real life is a documentary. An animation film has cartoon characters.

Blockbusters

Movies with big budgets that sell a lot of tickets are called blockbusters. Many of these movies do so well that movie producers make a sequel, or part II.

At the Theater: The place where you watch a movie is called a theater. To see a movie, usually, you have to buy a ticket. The movie is projected onto a large screen using a movie projector. An usher is a person who shows you to your seat and makes sure everybody is quiet during the movie.

V. Work with the text (answer the questions)

-It’s time to read. I prepared you some plots. Your task will be to find whole title of this film.

A synopsis is a brief summary of a written work or a movie. Read the movie synopses below and try to guess the title of the movie.

Movie 1: Back to the future Marty McFly, a typical American teenager of the Eighties, is accidentally sent back to 1955 in a plutonium-powered DeLorean "time machine" invented by a slightly mad scientist. During his often hysterical, always amazing trip back in time, Marty must make certain his teenage parents-to-be meet and fall in love - so he can get back to the future.   Movie 2: Harry Poter: Philosopher’s stone On his eleventh birthday, Harry Potter discovers that he is no ordinary boy. Hagrid, a beetle-eyed giant, tells Harry that he is a wizard and has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In his first year of magical education, Harry tackles a fully grown mountain troll, learns to play Quidditch, and participates in a thrilling "live" game of chess. Movie 3: Home alone Kevin is an 8-year old boy who is accidentally left home alone when his family go on vacation to France. During the time his family are away Kevin realises having a big house all to yourself isn't all fun and games when two stupid men try to rob his house, with christmas right around the corner. Little do the robbers know that Kevin has a lot of surprises in store for them.
Movie 8: Titanic In this romance, Kate Winslet plays an upper class woman who falls in love with a poor artist. The story takes place aboard a ship that is struck by an iceberg and sunk. In the end, Kate Winslet’s character, Rose, survives but the poor artist, who is played by Leonardo DiCaprio, dies.   Movie 4: Hachi: A Dog's Tale In Bedridge, Professor Parker Wilson finds an abandoned dog at the train station and takes it home with the intention of returning the animal to its owner. He finds that the dog is an Akita and names it Hachiko. However, nobody claims the dog so his family decides to keep Hachi.
Movie 7: King Kong This action/adventure film is a remake of a 1933 classic. Jack Black plays a movie director who captures a giant ape from a lost island and brings the ape back to New York. In the end, the ape escapes captivity and causes destruction in New York. Movie 6: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl The story follows pirate Captain Jack Sparrow and blacksmith Will Turner as they rescue the kidnapped Elizabeth Swann from the cursed crew of the Black Pearl, captained by Hector Barbossa, who become undead skeletons at night. Movie 5: Spider-man This is an action film starring Tobey Maguire. He plays a superhero who has to stop the evil genius Dr. Octopus. Unfortunately, his real life problems as college student Peter Parker cause him to temporarily give up being the superhero.
