Tablet of the Deathless Youth 8 страница

UNDERSTANDING THE CAUSE OF OPPOSITION

26.

We beseech God to aid you to see with the eye of justice and ponder with fairness.

27.

He speaks the truth and leads the way.

He is the Mighty, the Beneficent.

28.

Jesus, the son of Mary (upon him be the peace of God and his loving-kindness),

appeared with clear signs and indisputable evidences,

and his purpose was the salvation of humankind.

29.

Every just person will bear witness and every informed one will testify

that that holy Being did not seek or desire anything for himself.

30.

His sole intention was to guide those who had gone astray to the straight path of God.

31.

Yet there befell that most sacred Beauty what caused the dwellers of paradise to wail.

32.

His plight became so grievous that God, exalted be His glory, by His transcendent will,

caused him to ascend to [the fourth] heaven.

33.

What could have caused such a thing to happen?

34.

By the life of God! The opposition came from the divines, for Annas and Caiaphas,

who were Pharisees - that is, doctors of the Torah -

together with the priests of the idolaters,

rejected him and heaped abuse and curses on him.

35.

In like manner, consider the fate of Moses and the other prophets.

36.

Perhaps that which has been recounted in this tablet will help you to attain the understanding (irfān) that was mentioned,

and you will arise with the utmost endeavor to serve the Cause of God,

in such a manner that the ascendancy of the oppressors will not disturb you,

nor will the opposition of the learned change you from your path.

37.

Hear the call of this Wronged One, and turn from the left hand of idle fancy to the right hand of certainty, and from the sunset of doubt and misgiving to the sunrise of assurance.

38.

You have, no doubt, heard of some of the afflictions this Wronged One has suffered at the hands of his enemies since the early days of his life.

39.

Through the grace of God, exalted be His glory, we have proclaimed openly to all people, including the religious leaders and kings, that which is the cause of the salvation and tranquility of all humankind, and we have permitted nothing to deter or hinder us.

40.

Now, also, in the Most Great Prison, for the sake of God,

we set forth for the fair-minded a clear book.

41.

Consider and call to mind what the All-Merciful sent down in the Qurʾān (exalted be His utterance):

"Leave them to entertain themselves with their caviling."                                          Qurān 6:91

42.

We hope that by the grace of God you will apprehend the wisdom of these words and act accordingly.

43.

Set aside all besides God - that is, those things that are the cause of deprivation and ignorance -

and hold fast to whatever is the cause of maturity and development.

44.

This Cause is mighty and its aim is great.

45.

This is the day whereof He says:

"O my son!

God will bring everything to light though it is but the weight of a grain of mustard seed,

hidden under a rock, or in the heavens or in the earth, for God is perceptive and informed of all."

Quran 31:16

46.

This is the day wherein whatever is concealed in the hearts and souls will be revealed and made manifest.

47.

Consider those who have willingly given their lives and property

in the path of the love of the Self-Subsisting, the Most Exalted.

48.

He will guide you to His straight path and His great announcement.

49.

Consider Noah, Hūd and Ṣāliḥ (may God's blessings rest upon them)

50.

- what was the purpose of those Dawning Places of His Cause, and what transpired afterwards?

51.

This servant is not one of the learned, and he did not attend school.

52.

Outwardly, he was born into the house of one of the ministers of the state, to whom he is related.

53.

Authority is in the hands of God, your Lord, the Lord of the throne on high and earth below, the Lord of this world and the world to come.

54.

"None can resist His decree or repel His judgment.

55.

He does what He desires and ordains what He pleases."

He is the Mighty, the Powerful.

UNDERSTANDING THE CAUSE OF OPPOSITION

56.

Hear the call of this Wronged One.

Purify your heart with the water of detachment,

adorn your head with the crown of justice,

and array your temple with the robe of virtue, then say:

57.

O my God! O my God!

I testify to your oneness and your singleness, and I acknowledge the truth of what your prophets and your messengers have spoken, and what has been sent down in your books, your scriptures, your scrolls, and your tablets.

58.

O Lord!

I am your servant and the son of your servant.

59.

I bear witness with both my inward and outward tongue that you are God.

There is no God except you,

the Single, the One, the Powerful, the Knowing, the Wise.

60.

Alas! Alas! O my God!

My great sins and my grievous trespasses, and my heedlessness, have hindered me from turning toward the Dayspring of your signs and the Dawning Place of your evidences, and from recognising the rays of the dawning light of your Manifestation and from beholding the traces of your pen.

61.

Alas! Alas! O my Desire and my Adored One!

I know not for which of my misfortunes I should cry and lament.

62.

Should I weep for what has escaped me during the days in which the Luminary of Divine Revelation shed its radiance above the horizon of your will, or should I weep for my remoteness from the court of your nearness when the pavilion of your grandeur was raised above the highest banners through your power and your sovereignty?

63.

O my God!

The more you showed compassion and patience toward me, the more my heedlessness and opposition increased.

64.

You remembered me when I failed to remember you, and you turned toward me with the Manifestation of yourself when I hesitated to turn toward the radiance of your face, and you called out to me when I was unable to hear your call issuing from the Dayspring of your Cause.

65.

I swear by your glory!

My negligence has encompassed me on all sides by reason of following my selfish desires.

66.

Alas! Alas!

My desire has withheld me from your desire, and my will has veiled me from your will, inasmuch as I have clung to my own path while renouncing your straight path and your great glad tidings.

67.

You see and hear, O my God,

my sighing and my weeping, my abasement and my affliction.

68.

O Lord!

This embodiment of iniquity yearns for the waves of the ocean of your forgiveness and pardon;

this essence of negligence longs for the wonders of your gifts and bounties.

69.

Alas! Alas!

The tumult of the people has prevented me from giving ear to your utterance, and the clamour of your creatures has hindered me from beholding the horizon of your Revelation.

70.

I swear by your glory!

I want to weep for as long as your dominion and your kingdom endure!

How can I not weep?

71.

I weep that my eyes were prevented from seeing the light of the Sun of your Manifestation and my ears from listening to your glorification and praise.

72.

I swear by your glory, O Lord of the world and Sovereign of the nations!

73.

I want to hide my face under layers of earth and dust out of shame at what my hands have committed in my ignorance.

74.

Alas! Alas!

You were with me and you heard from me things unworthy of your station, but by your grace you concealed it from me and you did not reveal the wretchedness of my state, my deeds, and my words.

75.

Alas! Alas!

I do not know what you have ordained for me with your most exalted pen and what your will has decreed, O Lord of all names and Creator of the universe!

76.

Alas! Alas! that your irrevocable command withholds me from your choice sealed wine.

77.

I beseech you by the fragrant breezes of your revelation and the lights of your throne, and by he who diffused the fragrance of your robe in the Ḥijāz, and by the light of your command through which the heavens and the earth have been illuminated,

78.

to cause me under all conditions to turn toward you, detached from all besides you, holding fast to your cord, and clinging to the hem of the robe of your bounty and generosity.

79.

I choose for myself what you have chosen for me by your loving-kindness and your great bounty, O you in whose grasp are the reins of all things.

80.

No God is there but you, the Lord of the throne above and the earth below,

and the Possessor of this world and the world to come.

Tablet to the Queen, Victoria, of the United Kingdoms of England                 CHAPTER ONE

Divisions 1-25

Revealed in 1868

QUEEN VICTORIA

1.

O Queen in London!

Incline thine ear unto the voice of thy Lord, the Lord of all mankind,

calling from the Divine Lote-Tree:

2.

Verily, no God is there but Me, the Almighty, the All-Wise!

3.

Cast away all that is on earth,

and attire the head of thy kingdom with the crown of the remembrance of thy Lord,

the All-Glorious.

4.

He, in truth, hath come unto the world in His most great glory,

and [all] that hath been mentioned in the Gospel hath been fulfilled.

5.

The land of Syria hath been honoured by the footsteps of its Lord, the Lord of all men,

and North and South are both inebriated with the wine of His [prophetic] presence.

6.

Blessed is the man that inhaled the fragrance of the Most Merciful,

and turned unto the Dawning-Place of His Beauty, in this resplendent Dawn.

7.

The Mosque of Aqsá [in ___ ] quake through the breezes of its Lord, the All-Glorious

whilst Bathá (Mecca) trembleth at the voice of God, the Exalted, the Most High.

8.

Whereupon every single stone of them celebrateth the praise of the Lord,

through this Great Name.

9.

Lay aside thy desire, and set then thine heart towards thy Lord, the Ancient of Days.

10.

We make mention of thee for the sake of God,

and desire that thy name may be exalted through thy remembrance of God,

the Creator of earth and heaven.

He, verily, is witness unto that which I say.

11.

We have been informed that thou hast forbidden the trading in slaves, both men and women.

12.

This, verily, is what God hath enjoined in this wondrous Revelation.         (Proclamation p. 34)

13.

God hath, truly, destined a reward for thee, because of this.

14.

He, verily, will pay the doer of good his due recompense,

wert thou to follow what hath been sent unto thee

by Him Who is the All-Knowing, the All-Informed.

15.

As to him who turneth aside, and swelleth with pride,

after that the clear tokens have come unto him, from the Revealer of signs,

his work shall God bring to naught.

He, in truth, hath power over all things.

16.

Man's actions are acceptable after his having recognized (the Manifestation).

17.

He that turneth aside from the True One is indeed the most veiled amongst His creatures.

18.

Thus hath it been decreed by Him Who is the Almighty, the Most Powerful.

19.

We have also heard that thou hast entrusted the reins of counsel into the hands of the representatives of the people.

20.

Thou, indeed, hast done well,

for thereby the foundations of the edifice of thine affairs will be strengthened,

and the hearts of all that are beneath thy shadow, whether high or low, will be tranquillized.

21.

It behoveth them, however, to be trustworthy among His servants,

and to regard themselves as the representatives of all that dwell on earth.

22.

This is what counselleth them, in this Tablet, He Who is the Ruler, the All-Wise.

23.

And if any one of them directeth himself towards the Assembly,

let him turn his eyes unto the Supreme Horizon, and say:

24.

'O my God!

I ask Thee, by Thy most glorious Name, to aid me

in that which will cause the affairs of Thy servants to prosper, and Thy cities to flourish.

Thou, indeed, hast power over all things!'

25.

Blessed is he that entereth the Assembly for the sake of God,

and judgeth between men with pure justice.

He, indeed, is of the blissful.

Tablet to Queen Victoria                                                                                     CHAPTER TWO

Divisions 26-50

QUEEN VICTORIA

26.

O ye members of Assemblies in that land and in other countries!

Take ye counsel together, and let your concern be only for that which profiteth mankind, and bettereth the condition thereof, if ye be of them that scan heedfully.

27.

Regard the world as the human body which, though at its creation whole and perfect,

hath been afflicted, through various causes, with grave disorders and maladies.

28.

Not for one day did it gain ease, nay, its sickness waxed more severe, as it fell under the treatment of ignorant physicians, who gave full rein to their personal desires, and have erred grievously.

29.

And if at one time, through the care of an able physician, a member of that body was healed, the rest remained afflicted as before.

Thus informeth you the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.

30.

We behold it, in this day, at the mercy of rulers, so drunk with pride that they cannot discern clearly their own best advantage, much less recognize a Revelation so bewildering and challenging as this.

31.

And[4] if one of them endeavor to better his health, his intention will not be but to profit himself thereof whether by name or effect, therefore he will not be able to heal him save to a certain extent.

32.

That[5] which God hath ordained as the sovereign remedy and mightiest instrument for the healing of the world is the union of all its peoples in one universal Cause, one common Faith.

33.

This can in no wise be achieved except through the power of a skilled, an all-powerful, and inspired Physician.

34.

By My life! This is the truth, and all else naught but error.

35.

Each time that Most Mighty Instrument hath come, and that Light shone forth from the Ancient Dayspring, He was withheld by ignorant physicians who, even as clouds, interposed themselves between Him and the world.

36.

It failed therefore, to recover, and its sickness hath persisted until this day.

37.

They indeed were powerless to protect it, or to effect a cure, whilst He Who hath been the Manifestation of Power amongst men was withheld from achieving His purpose, by reason of what the hands of the ignorant physicians have wrought.

38.

Consider these days in which He Who is the Ancient Beauty hath come in the Most Great Name, that He may quicken the world and unite its peoples.

39.

They, however, rose up against Him with sharpened swords, and committed that which caused the Faithful Spirit to lament, until in the end they imprisoned Him in the most desolate of cities, and broke the grasp of the faithful upon the hem of His robe.

40.

Were anyone to tell them:

'The World Reformer is come,'

41.

they would answer and say:

'Indeed it is proven that He is a fomenter of discord!',

42.

and this notwithstanding that they have never associated with Him,

and have perceived that He did not seek, for one moment, to protect Himself.

43.

At all times He was at the mercy of the wicked doers.

44.

At one time they cast Him into prison, at another they banished Him,

and at yet another hurried Him from land to land.

45.

Thus have they pronounced judgment against Us,

and God, truly, is aware of what I say.

46.

They[6] are the most ignorant people:

before the truth, they cut off their arms but do not feel,

deprive themselves of the good, but do not know it,

47.

and they are likened unto the small boys

who cannot distinguish between the corrupter and the reformer, the good and the evil;

verily We see them behind the thick veil of ignorance.

48.

O ye rulers of the earth!

Wherefore have ye clouded the radiance of the Sun, and caused it to cease from shining?

49.

Hearken unto the counsel given you by the Pen of the Most High,

that haply both ye and the poor may attain unto tranquillity and peace.

50.

We beseech God to assist the kings of the earth to establish peace on earth.

He, verily, doth what He willeth.

Tablet to Queen Victoria                                                                                  CHAPTER THREE

Divisions 51-80

QUEEN VICTORIA

51.

O kings of the earth!

We see you increasing every year your expenditures, and laying the burden thereof on your subjects.

52.

This, verily, is wholly and grossly unjust.
