Tablet of the Deathless Youth 5 страница

the Exalted, the Sublime, shall endure.

44.

All that He has desired of the world are the hearts of His beloved ones,

to sanctity them from all else beside Him

45.

and uplift them to the abode of safety,

wherein nothing is beheld save the splendors of His countenance,

wherein only praise of Me, the Almighty, the Wondrous, is heard.

46.

Open, O people, the cities of men's hearts with the sword of the tongue

in the name of your Lord, the All-Powerful, the Almighty, the Beneficent.

47.

Thus has the tongue of the All-Merciful commanded you formerly and presently;

48.

observe, then, such as you have been bidden,

and do not transgress the precepts of God, your Lord and the Lord of the worlds.

49.

Beware lest you dispute regarding the Cause of God with anyone,

for We have abrogated the law of the sword

50.

and have ordained that service be rendered by wisdom and exposition,

as a token of Our grace to all creation.

51.

Be kindled, O people, in the heat of God's love,

that the souls of mankind may be set aflame!

52.

This is true service to the Cause,

if you be among them possessed of understanding.

53.

From everlasting has He been sanctified of the world

and all that is created within and upon it.

54.

If He were to so desire, He could conquer the earth and all who dwell upon it,

by virtue of His name, the Omnipotent, the Almighty, the Powerful.

55.

Adorn yourselves, O people, with the color of God;

56.

forsake, then, the hue of those who join partners with Him.

57.

God directs you unto righteousness and virtue.

58.

Be mindful in the religion of God,

and do not commit iniquity and acts of profligacy. [extravagence]

59.

Be among those from whose faces the light of your Lord, the Unconstrained, is beheld,

and from whom the sign of God and His bearing are manifest.

60.

Thus has it been ordained for you, the people of Bahá,

in these days of travail.

Surah of the Arabs                                                                                               CHAPTER THREE

Divisions 61-90

THE ARABS

61.

O my Arabs, give hear unto My call and walk in My path.

62.

Remember, then, the days of My presence

and then My exile, My solitude, and My imprisonment,

that you may be remembered by God in His kingdom of sublime glory.

63.

Cast aside the cup of annihilation proffered by those who follow self and desire,

then take up the chalice that is life everlasting proffered by the fingers of Bahá,

in the name of your Lord, the Exalted, the Most High, in this latter day.

64.

By this are souls so enriched as to be independent of the worlds.

65.

O Pen of the Ancient of Days!

Call to remembrance the Arabs whom God has chosen for His own,

and whom He has enabled to gaze toward the direction of His mercy,

66.

whom He has severed from the idolators,

that they may rejoice within themselves and be steadfast in the Cause,

whereby the heaven of opposition has been cleft and every lofty summit scattered to dust.

67.

Say: O people!

We warned you upon Our departing Iráq that Sámirí would appear,

the Calf cry aloud,

and the birds of the night take flight after the setting of the Sun.

68.

Beware lest you forget the words of God;

abide in peerless sanctity.

In the Quránic story of Moses, Samiri induced the Israelites into the worship of the Golden Calf.

69.

By God, My Arabs!

If you were to look upon Me, you would not recognize Me,

for My hair has whitened by reason of successive tribulations,

and the Alif of the Cause has appeared in the form of Dál by virtue of unrelenting trials;  letters

70.

moreover, this rosy-red and luminous visage has grown wan and pale.

71.

My Arabs!

Be not forgetful of My mention,

nor of My hardships, My sorrows, and My suffering.

72.

By My life!

Mine eye weeps and My heart laments over Myself amongst these idolators.

73.

By God!

The beauty of the divine will has suffered alteration by reason of the oppression of foes,

the temple of the divine behest lies prostrate on the ashes,

74.

destiny has torn asunder the robe of forbearance,

and decree is bereft of realization

for such as the armies of the wicked-doers have committed against God,

the Exalted, the Most High, in His latter dispensation.

75.

Thus has the matter come to pass, if you be among those with a hearing ear.

76.

Is there any soul who shall arise to assist the Beauty of God by the tongue,

who shall guard the Temple of His Cause from the swords of the People of the Bayán,

79.

and be among them whom the veils of names have not shut out

from attaining unto Him Who is the Supreme Emanation,

the Remembrance of God, and the Wellspring of Wisdom?

80.

Is there any who might have compassion on this Wronged One,

who shall arise to render Him victorious, and be severed from all the worlds?

81.

My Arabs!

He who is unable to speak in My presence has endeavored to slay Me,

after We had created him, reared him, instructed him,

and protected him for months and years.                                  Baha-ullah’s brother Mírzá Yaḥyá

82.

By God!

If one of the tales of the Everlasting Joseph of were to be related unto you,

and such as had befallen Him from the wolves of hatred,

you would be severed from your own souls,

look out unto the wilderness, and lament until the spirit left your bodies.

83.

Yet the Pen forbears to speak, so as to guard your souls,

O concourse of the faithful.

84.

O my Arabs!

Weep over My loneliness, My solitude,

My imprisonment, and the hardship I have sustained;

85.

be not among the heedless.

86.

Those whom God has made to be a manifest warning on the earth have arisen in opposition,

such that the Pen of the worlds cannot describe.

87.

O my Arabs!

Listen to My counsel,

and do not draw near to those from whom the odors of hypocrisy defuse.

88.

Shun their ilk and abide in stainless purity.

89.

Thus has the Beauty of the All-Merciful commanded you

at this moment while He is hemmed in with sorrows by reason of the legions of Satan,

if you be among them possessed of understanding.

90.

The radiance which has dawned from the everlasting realm rest upon you, O People of Bahá,

so long as the Lord, the Omnipotent, the Exalted, the Sublime, shall endure.

Translated by J. Hall 2017

Notes

1 Lote-Tree. Among the connotations of this word are the Burning Bush and the Lote-Tree of the seventh heaven beyond which lies God’s throne. In the Bahá’í writings, it is a symbol for the Manifestation of God.

The Lote-tree, representative of the Manifestation of God in the Bahai tablets.

Sidrah might also be interpreted the burning bush, or the Lote-tree of the seventh heaven, beyond which lies God’s throne. Since very ancient times, Lote-trees were planted at the end of a road or path.

Tablet of the [Daily] Prayers                                                                               CHAPTER ONE

Divisions 1-25

"The daily “obligatory” prayers are three in number. The believer is entirely free to choose any one of these three prayers, yet is under the obligation of reciting one of them, and in accordance with any specific directions with which they may be accompanied.

From a letter written on behalf of Shoghi Effendi

"By 'morning,' 'noon' and 'evening,' mentioned in connection with the Obligatory Prayers, is meant respectively the intervals between sunrise and noon, between noon and sunset, and from sunset till two hours after sunset.

Synopsis and Codification of the Kitab-i-Aqdas, p. 36

[DAILY] PRAYERS

Short [Daily] Prayer

To be recited once in every 24 hours, at Noon

1.

I bear witness, O my God, that Thou hast created me to know Thee and to worship Thee.

2.

I testify, at this moment,

to my powerlessness and to Thy might, to my poverty and to Thy wealth.

3.

There is no other God save Thee,

the Help in Peril, the Self-Subsistent.

Baha-ullah

Medium [Daily] Prayer

To be recited daily, in the Morning, at Noon, and in the Evening

4.

Whoso wisheth to pray, let [them] wash [their] hands, and while [they] washeth, let [them] say,

5.

Strengthen my hand[s], O my God,

that [I] may take hold of Thy Book with such steadfastness

that the hosts of the world shall have no power over [them].

6.

Guard [them] from meddling with whatsoever doth not belong unto [them].

Thou art, verily, the Almighty, the Most Powerful.

7.

And while washing [their] face, let [them] say,

8.

I have turned my face unto Thee, O my Lord!

9.

Illumine it with the light of Thy visage.

10.

Protect it, then, from turning to anyone but Thee.

11.

Then let [them] stand up,

and facing the Qiblih, (the Point of Adoration, [said to be in] Bahji, Akka, Israel), let [them] say,

12.

God testifieth that there is not any other God save Him.

13.

His are the kingdoms of Revelation and of creation.

14.

He, in truth, hath manifested Him Who is the Dayspring of Revelation, Who conversed on Sinai,

15.

through Whom the Supreme Horizon hath been made to shine,

and the Lote-Tree beyond which there is no passing hath spoken,

16.

and through Whom the call hath been proclaimed unto all who are in heaven and on earth,

"Lo, the All-Possessing is come.

17.

Earth and heaven, glory and dominion are God's,

the Lord of all men, and the Possessor of the Throne on high and of earth below!"

18.

Let [them], then, bend down, with hands resting on the knees, and say,

19.

Exalted art Thou above my praise and the praise of anyone beside me,

above my description and the description of all who are in heaven and all who are on earth!

20.

Then, standing with hands open, upward toward the face, let  [them] say,

21.

Disappoint not, O my God, [them] that hath, with beseeching fingers,

clung to the hem of Thy mercy and Thy grace,

O Thou Who of those who show mercy art the Most Merciful!

22.

Let [them], then, be seated and say,

23.

I bear witness to Thy union and Thy [Lordship],

and that Thou art God, and that no other God is there beside Thee.

24.

Thou hast, verily, revealed thy Cause, and fulfilled Thy Covenant,

and opened wide the [gate] of Thy grace to all that dwell in heaven and on earth.

25.

Blessing and peace, salutation and glory, rest upon Thy loved ones,

whom the changes and changes of the world have not deterred from turning unto Thee,

and who have given their all, in the hope of obtaining that which is with Thee.

Thou art, in truth, the Ever-Forgiving, the All-Bountiful.

Baha-ullah

(If anyone choose to recite instead of the long verse these words:

"God testifieth that there is none other God but Him, the Help in Peril, the Self-Subsistent," it would be sufficient.

And likewise, it would suffice were he, while seated, to choose to recite these words:

"I bear witness to Thy unity and Thy oneness, and that Thou art God, and that there is none other God beside Thee.")

(Baha-ullah)

Tablet of the [Daily] Prayers                                                                              CHAPTER TWO

Divisions 26-60

Long [Daily] Prayer

To be recited once in 24 hours

[DAILY] PRAYERS

26.

Whoso wisheth to recite this prayer, let him stand up and turn unto God,

and, as he standeth in his place, let him gaze to the right and to the left,

as if awaiting the mercy of his Lord, the Most Merciful, the Compassionate.

Then let him say,

27.

O Thou Who art the Lord of all names and the Maker of the heavens!

28.

I beseech Thee by them Who are the Daysprings of Thine invisible Essence,

the Most Exalted, the All-Glorious,

to make of my prayer a fire that will burn away the veils which have shut me out from Thy beauty,

and a light that will lead me unto the ocean of Thy Presence.

29.

Let him then raise his hands in supplication toward God, blessed and exalted be He, and say,

30.

O Thou the Desire of the world and the Beloved of the nations!

Thou seest me turning toward Thee, and rid of all attachment to anybody save Thee,

and clinging to Thy cord, through whose movement the whole creation hath been stirred up.

31.

I am Thy servant, O my Lord,

and the son of Thy servant.

32.

Behold me standing ready to do Thy will and Thy desire,

and wishing nothing else except Thy good pleasure.

33.

I implore Thee by the Ocean of Thy mercy

and the Daystar of Thy grace,

to do with Thy servant as Thou willest and pleasest.

34.

By Thy might which is far above all mention and praise!

35.

Whatsoever is revealed by Thee is the desire of my heart and the beloved of my soul.

36.

O God, my God!

Look not upon my hopes and my doings,

nay rather look upon Thy will that hath encompassed the heavens and the earth.

37.

By Thy Most Great Name, O Thou Lord of all nations!

I have desired only what Thou didst desire, and love only what Thou dost love.

38.

Let him then kneel, and bowing his forehead to the ground, let him say:

39.

Exalted art Thou above the description of anyone save Thyself,

and the comprehension of aught else except Thee.

40.

Let him then stand and say:

41.

Make my prayer, O my Lord, a fountain of living waters

whereby I may live as long as Thy sovereignty endureth,

and may make mention of Thee in every world of Thy worlds.

42.

Let him again raise his hands in supplication, and say:

43.

O Thou in separation from Whom hearts and souls have melted,

and by the fire of Whose love the whole world hath been set aflame!

44.

I implore Thee by Thy Name through which Thou hast subdued the whole creation,

not to withhold from me that which is with Thee, O Thou Who rulest over all men!

45.

Thou seest, O my Lord, this stranger hastening to his most exalted home

beneath the canopy of Thy majesty and within the precincts of Thy mercy;

46.

and this transgressor seeking the ocean of Thy forgiveness;

and this lowly one the court of Thy glory;

and this poor creature the orient of Thy wealth.

47.

Thine is the authority to command whatsoever Thou willest.

48.

I bear witness that Thou art to be praised in Thy doings,

and to be obeyed in Thy commands,

and to remain unconstrained in Thy bidding.

49.

Let him then raise his hands, and repeat three time the Greatest Name.

Allah-u-Abha       [God is glorious]

Allah-u-Abha

Allah-u-Abha

50.

Let him then bend down with hands resting on the knees before God, blessed and exalted be He,

and say,

51.

Thou seest, O my God, how my spirit hath been stirred up within my limbs and members,

in its longing to worship Thee, and in its yearning to remember Thee and praise Thee;

52.

how it Commandment testifieth to that whereunto the Tongue of Thy hath testified in the kingdom of Thine utterance and the heaven of Thy knowledge.

53.

I love, in this state, O my Lord, to beg to Thee all that is with Thee,

that I may demonstrate my poverty, and magnify Thy bounty and Thy riches,

and may declare my powerlessness, and manifest Thy power and Thy might.

54.

Let him then stand and raise his hands twice in supplication, and say,

55.

There is no God but Thee, the Almighty, the All-Bountiful.

56.

There is no God but Thee, the Ordainer, both in the beginning and in the end.

57.

O God, my God! Thy forgiveness hath emboldened me, and Thy mercy hath strengthened me, and Thy call hath awakened me, and Thy grace hath raised me up and led me unto Thee.

58.

Who, otherwise, am I that I should dare to stand at the gate of the city of Thy nearness, or set my face toward the lights that are shining from the heaven of Thy will?

59.

Thou seest, O my Lord, this wretched creature knocking at the door of Thy grace,
