4. What can you advise your British friend who wants to learn the Russian/Belarusian language? I would recommend to visit national events, concerts, exhibitions, film shows and performances, watch national TV programmes, read books, newspapers and magazines in Russian/Belarusian, communicate with people, learn their culture and traditions.

5. Social networking is a convenient way to keep in touch with foreign friends and a good possibility to develop cooperation. What do you think about it?                                   Social networks has become one of my favourite new ways to stay in touch. It’s hard to find a person who doesn’t have an account in Facebook, VK, Whatsapp or Viber. It’s a great outlet for keeping in touch with foreign friends and sharing important moments with them.

What are the daily habits of Belarusians?

At first glance, Belarusian people don’t differ from other Europeans in everyday life. However, our nation has its distinctive features. Foreigners, who have visited our country, say that our people are very tolerant and hospitable. Belarusians are viewed as hard-working, intelligent, tactful, patient and peace-loving people. Sometimes we are afraid of changes, but we are able to adapt to any circumstances.

Belarusians are very hardworking but at the same time homely people. That’s why life of a typical Belarusian is basically centred around work and family. Weekends are a wonderful illustration of this. After a working week the whole family pack food and go out of town to traditional cottages called dachas. There they usually work in the gardens and have barbecues, swim in the lake and pick mushrooms and berries in the forest. Belarusians love to spend time in the countryside. Those who have their own land grow vegetables and fruit and often have a greenhouse which reflects our resourcefulness.

Belarusian people are very creative. Our music and folklore can tell a lot about the national character as we are fond of legends about ghosts and angels, miraculous icons and herbal medicine.

Modern Belarusians look after their health and lead an active life style.

At the same time, in the view of Belarusians themselves, they are loved and respected by everyone. Belarusian people have always enjoyed receiving guests and have been perfect at this. This tradition is alive today.

To sum up, Belarusian features of character are: tolerance and a lack of temper. Belarusians are kind, soft, soulful, and hospitable. They are easy to be ruled; they are hard-working, reserved, not very jolly; they are rather pessimistic, stubborn and peaceful.
