In this exercise there are two new animal words — pelican and dolphin. Encourage Pp to read them and find the Russian equivalents. Focus on the differences in pronunciation and stress. Help Pp with reading the new verbs. Elicit a translation.

Class. To practise pronunciation of the new words. To practise giving commands.

Ask Pp to listen to the tape and repeat the commands. After the tape finishes, elicit what commands Pp heard.

Tapescript Rex, good dog, run. Good dog! Climb the tree! Good, good. Jump. Jump three times! Good dog! Swim! Good for you!

 

Suggestions:

• Please game: Give commands to Pp with the verbs of physical movement. Pp obey the commands if they are said with the word please.

• Like a monkey game: Give commands to Pp with the verbs of physical movement. Each time add how the commands should be done. E.g.: Swim like a crocodile. Swrim like a dolphin.

• Miming game: Ask Pp to mime the movement of an animal and name the movement and the animal.

• In pairs Pp choose a picture from Ex. 1 and give the command,

Class. To practise speaking about physical abilities.

Ask Pp to study the box, elicit / explain the rules. Let Pp speak about themselves as if in a boasting game.

Suggestions: Chain drill. In a chain Pp name a movement and make sentences. P1: Run. P2: / can run. Fly. P3: / can't fly....

Ask Pp to find the names of animals and birds in Lessons 1 and 2 of this unit and talk about all the animals and birds they know.

Pairs. To practise speaking about physical abilities under less controlled conditions.

This Guessing game provides more practice in speaking about physical abilities. Encourage Pp to make both positive and negative sentences.

Class. То practise the reading rules.

Explain / Revise the reading rule. Pp read the words after the teacher, then by themselves. With more advanced Pp revise the reading rules from the previous units, and generalize different points about spellings.

 

Homework. To practise writing about animal abilities.

Pp add to the descriptions of their favourite animate what they can / cannot do.

Note: Ask Pp to make cards with pictures of wild animals and birds or with their names and bring them to the next lesson (Lesson 3).
