Let’s talk about education. What can you tell me about the system of education in Belarus?

Let’s talk about different types of houses .Tell me about your dream hous е .

There are different types of houses: detached, semi-detached, terraced houses and blocks of flats. A detached house is not joined to another house. The advantage of a detached house is the fact that the free space surrounding the building belongs to the family. You can do whatever you would like to be done in your house. A semi-detached house is a pair of houses that share a common wall. A flat is a part of a larger building which is called a block of flats. A flat can be a one-bedroom, two-bedroom or three-bedroom unit. Nowadays people prefer buying flats to renting them.

I’d like to live in a detached house. It’s large and has big windows and the front of the house gets the morning sun. It is made of red brick and has tiling on the roof. The rooms are spacious. The house is stylish; there are fewer rooms and more space. There are many large windows so that during the day the rooms are never dark. There is a fireplace in the lounge so the people living in the house can warm themselves by fire in the winter. There are beautiful trees, bushes and flowers around the house. On a hot summer’s day the trees shade the pathway leading to the front door. There are fragrant flowers growing near the main kitchen window, and there are jasmine and rose bushes growing by the fence.

Does the place where a person lives reflect his/her personality? Why (not)?

I agree that the room or the flat we live in reflects the character and personality of the people who live in it. If you are a well organised person, then the chances are that your room will be clean and spacious. You are likely to spend a lot of time in your room, so it is important for you to decorate it using the colours you like. If you prefer bright colours and large patterns, then you are likely to be quite outgoing, but more neutral colours tend to reflect more introvert and laid back people. The design of the room helps to understand if the owner of the room is keen on fashion and knows modern trends in the flat design.

What questions will you ask your landlord about the house you are going to rent?

How many rooms are there in the house?

What places for entertainment are there in the neighbourhood?

How much does it cost to rent a room?

Do you have a shower, a laundry basket, a sink in the bathroom?

Is there central heating or air conditioning in the house?

Is your house a cottage, a bungalow or a mansion?

Your friend wants to rent a flat. Give him some advice how to do it.

It’s not easy to find a suitable flat. You should start with studying information about flats to let. Most rooms, flats, apartments or houses are advertised on accommodation websites. Other sources include the accommodation sections of newspapers; advertisements in shops; college notice boards etc. You may also find available accommodation through word of mouth. While visiting the chosen flat it will be a good idea to check if there are any signs of dampness; what security is available (such as window locks, burglar alarm); who pays for the heating; what sort of condition the bathroom is in. You should also find out if hot water available is all or some of the time and if there are shops and other facilities nearby. Before you agree to rent make sure that you can afford the rent being asked.

They say that living in the country is better than living in a city. What do you think about this ?

Like most young people I’d like to live in a city because all cities have better opportunities for entertainment and development opportunities. Museums, theatres, cafes and restaurants are numerous in big cities. Dance clubs, music classes, language courses choose whatever you like! Everyone can find something to their taste. Just go out.

What is more, cities offer an access to best educational facilities and as a result greater career prospects.

A very important advantage of living in the city is that you have the best health facilities. City dwellers enjoy hospitals with modern equipment, quick ambulances and new researches in the sphere of medicine.

May be in some 20-30 years I’d like to live in the country. The life in the country lets people enjoy quietness, nature and simple pleasures of life.

Let’s talk about education. What can you tell me about the system of education in Belarus?

In Belarus there are 4 stages of education: preschool education, primary school education, secondary school education and higher education. In our country primary and secondary school education is compulsory. All in all it lasts 11 years. The school year begins on September 1st and ends at the end of May. It is divided into 4 terms. At the end of each term they have holidays. Summer vacations are the longest.

The school day starts at 8 am and finishes at 3 pm. But the schedule can vary from school to school and in some establishments pupils can study in shifts. It's also required in many schools to wear a school uniform.

The basic task of school is to provide pupils with knowledge of particular subjects. The typical primary school curriculum includes the following subjects: Russian and Belarusian Language and Literature, Foreign Language, Mathematics, Drawing, Music, PE lessons. From the 5th form Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Geography and IT technologies are added to the curriculum. Besides gaining knowledge of various subjects children learn to think critically, analyze different phenomena, view problems from different angles and find possible solutions.

After the 9th form children can enter a college or a lyceum. To receive GCSE pupils must take 4 exams: Russian or Belarusian Language, Mathematics, History of Belarus and Foreign Language. After the 11th form pupils can enter a university to get a higher education.
