Each company, firm, joint venture, stock-holding company, bank, has its own complicated business structure and the staff which is necessary for the work. Management is often called the art of getting things done through people. Managers must understand that human resources are very important part of any business. More managers take into account the "human factor".

The Managing Director or the Chief Executive or President is the head of the company. Any corporation has a special guiding body, the Board of Directors — each Director is in charge of a department. The Chairman of the Boards is in overall control and may not be the head of any one department.

Vice-President or Vice-Chairman is at the head of the company if the President or the Chairman is absent or ill.

So a chairman, the president, vice-presidents are top executives. Most of the decisions are made by middle management. The main thing is to get a result. The day-to-day work is directed by managers appointed by the Board. They set goals, work out strategies and help to realize them.

Most companies have Finance, Sales, Marketing, Production, Research and Development, Personnel, Tax, Logistics Departments.

Most departments have a Manager, who is in charge of its day-to-day running, and who reports to the Director. The Director is responsible for strategic planning and for making decisions. Various personnel in each Department report to the Manager.

2. Answer the questions:

1) What is headed by the chairman?
