Do you like shopping?
Yes, I do. But I am not a shop addict.
What do you like buying?
It depends on where and when I shop. For example, I like to shop for souvenirs and gifts two weeks before New Year Eve. I like brightly decorated shopping malls and department stores. I feel the exciting atmosphere and anticipate my relatives and friends joy on getting my presents.
If it’s a daily shopping for food to the nearest supermarket I don’t fee quite optimistic/enthusiastic about that.
What are your favourite shops?
My favourite department store is GostinyDvor. I like it as it is one of the oldest stores in our city. I like both buying and window-shopping there. One can find practically everything they need. There are men’s and women’s wear, haberdashery, millinery, hosiery departments, where you can buy umbrellas, belts, gloves, socks, clothes and hats. It’s a tourist trap, so one can find lots of souvenirs there. There are stationary departments and goods for artists. So I like it.
How often do you go shopping?
I go shopping for food 3 times a week. I shop for consumer goods when I feel like or I need. I can’t say I’m a bargain-hunter, but I sometimes wait for discounts and go shopping during the season sales.
Who do you usually go with?
It depends on my mood. I feel comfortable both when I go shopping alone or with my family or friends.
How much time can you spend in a shop?
It depends, too. If I’m in mood, I can spend there hours, but if I follow a pre-planned shopping list, and I’m pressed for time, it takes me 20 minutes as a maximum.
Do you make a shopping list?
Sometimes, but I often buy on impulse.

Do you live in the city or in the country?
I live in the city of Saint-Petersburg. It is a cosmopolitan metropolis.
What are the advantages of living in a city/country?
The best thing about living in a city is that:
There is good nightlife.
There is a wide range of shops.
There are lots of cultural activities. (e.g. museums, concerts, films)
It is cosmopolitan.(=full of people from many different countries and cultures)
There are more job opportunities.
What are the disadvantages of living in a city/country?

The worst thing about living in a city is that:
It is very crowded.
People are more aggressive.
It can be noisy and dangerous.
The streets are often dirty and it’s polluted.
There’s traffic congestion and parking is difficult.
There’s a high crime rate.
You have a higher cost of living. (e.g. houses are more expensive, so is transport)
Do you like living in Saint-Petersburg?
Yes, naturally. I’m happy to be a part of that unique and beautiful city.
What is this city famous for?
Our city is famous for its history: at different times glorious and tragic. It is a city of three revolutions and a native town of world-known genious writers, composers, artists. Our city is a fulfilled dream of an ambitious tsar, Peter the Great. It is the most beautiful city in the world to me.
Where would you like to live?
I would like to live in Saint-Petersburg as it is my native town and I feel safe and happy here.
What cities would you like to visit and why?
I would like to visit all world capitals and then go round other small cities that are famous for some historical, cultural events and monuments; for example, Harlem in the Netherlands, where Peter the Great went.

What are your favourite fruit and vegetables?
I like almost all fruit and vegetables, except courage. My favourite fruit are bananas, oranges, apples, pears, strawberry and raspberry, melon and cherry.
I like cucumbers, tomatoes, broccoli, potatoes and pumpkins.
What do you usually have for breakfast/dinner?
It depends on my mood, appetite and season. For example, when it’s winter and I’m hungry I eat a full breakfast or dinner. I eat porridge, omelette / scrambled eggs and a cup of coffee for breakfast. Dinner usually consists of a soup, main course – meat with a garnish – and a dessert.
But in summer when it’s hot I can eat a fruit or vegetable salad and an ice-cream for a dessert. And I usually drink a lot of water.
What does your mother cook for a family dinner?
My mother is a good cook. So she can make everything. She cooks different salads, duck stuffed with apples and a blackberry pie for dessert.

What would you like to eat now?
I wouldn’t like to eat anything because I feel nervous.
What do you usually order in a restaurant?
It depends. But I always taste something new and unusual because I like experiments.
What do you prefer to drink?
I prefer to drink water as it’s a source of healthy life. But as nobody is perfect, I sometimes drink coca-cola and fizzy drinks. I also like coffee.
What can you cook?
I can cook an omelette. I beat two eggs, add a tablespoon of sour cream, mix everything, add salt and pour the mixture on the heated frying pan where I had melted the butter. Then I grate cheese and when it is melted I serve it. Believe me it never fails to get success.
Do you like going to a cafe or a restaurant?
Who doesn’t? I like it really. It is one of my greatest pleasures and I often go to Italian cuisine restaurants or cafes where they serve delicious desserts and coffee.
What is your favourite cafe/restaurant?
I can’t say that I have a favourite restaurant but I often go to Mama Roma or Pizza Hut as I enjoy pasta and pizza.
What is the atmosphere (furniture) like?
The atmosphere is pleasant and home-like.
What menu (cuisine) does this cafe/restaurant have?
They have a wide range of pasta and pizza. It’s Italian. Their snacks, starters and desserts are really delicious.
Do you like the service?
Mostly, yes.
What about prices?
The prices are moderate.
