How to Make the Most of a Job Interview

1.If you’ve done your paperwork right, managed to arouse an employer’s interest and landed a job interview, your real work is just beginning. It’s one thing to impress somebody on paper or over the telephone, but it’s another thing to impress in the flesh.

2.A job interview is a business appointment in which everything counts in conveying a good impression. Experts will tell you that advance preparation is the key to interview success.

3.Before you go to a job interview, find out all you can about the company. Depending on the results of your research, you are supposed to prepare an interview outfit that will make you look your very best. In most places you are not expected to wear a Chanel suit, but even if you are fresh from school don’t think that your favorite blue jeans, an oversized sweater and a T-shirt will be right for projecting a businesslike image. Many personnel managers will confess that they often turn candidates down for poor appearance; however, your looks alone will not help you get a job unless you are well prepared for the interview. It makes perfect sense to go through your resume once again and make sure you know the dates of important events.

You can also compensate for your lack of experience with your qualifications, enthusiasm, ability to learn quickly, and most of all your sense of responsibility. It’s natural therefore that if you really want to get this job you must show yourself as a mature individual who is not acting on impulse, but is quite serious about his/her choices. Fight for your place in life: change negative into positive: you are young but you are strong and can learn fast.

4.Another thing you can do is go through your personal achievements to make up your mind what you might want to present to an interviewer as an impressive argument in your favor.        4.Что вы можете сделать еще, так это вспомнить свои достижения, чтобы решить, какие из них представить человеку, проводящему собеседование, как аргумент в вашу пользу. Перед собеседованием хорошо отдохните, распланируйте свое время, приготовьте все, что вам необходимо заранее, чтобы не запаниковать и не растеряться в последнюю минуту!

       5.У каждой организации есть своя культура и традиции, но внимание к некоторым моментам может помочь любому. Вы знаете, что на некоторых должностях недостаток опыта работы – большой минус. Недостаток опыта работы вы можете компенсировать своей квалификацией, энтузиазмом, способностью быстро учиться, а самое главное, - чувством ответственности. Таким образом, естественно, что если вы действительно хотите получить эту работу, вы должны показать себя зрелой личностью, которая не действует импульсивно, но серьезно относится к своему выбору. Боритесь за свое место в жизни: меняйте отрицательное на положительное; вы молоды, но достаточно сильны и быстро учитесь.

The United States of America

1.The United States of America is the 4th largest country in the world after Russia, Canada and China. It occupies the central part of the North American continent.

2.The United States of America is a federal republic, consisting of 50 states including the states of Alaska and Hawaii.

3.The total area of the United States (including the District of Columbia) is about 9,809,000 sq km.

4.The country is washed by 3 oceans: the Arctic, the Atlantic and the Pacific. The country has many lakes, with the Great Lakes included. There are also many rivers on the US territory. The longest of them are the Mississippi, the Missouri, the Columbia, the Rio Grande and some others. On the US territory there are mountains and lowlands. The highest mountains are the Rocky Mountains, the Cordillera and the Sierra Nevada. The highest peak, Mount McKinley, is located in Alaska.

5.The climate conditions are rather different. The country is rich in natural and mineral resources: oil, gas, iron ore, coal and various metals.

6.The USA is a highly developed industrial and agricultural country. The main industrial branches are aircraft, rocket, automobile, electronics, radio-engineering and others.

7.Americans are made up from nearly all races and nations. The country population is over 250 mil. The national symbol of the USA is its national flag «Stars and Stripes», having 50 white stars and 13 white and red stripes on its field, symbolising the number of the original and present day states.

8.Officially the country comprises 50 states and one District of Columbia. The states differ in size, population and economic development. Each state has its own capital. The capital of the USA is Washington. There are many large cities in the country: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit, San-Francisco, Cleveland and some others.

9.The United States of America is a federal state, headed by the President. According to the US Constitution the powers of the Government are divided into 3 branches: legislative, executive and judicial.

10.The legislative power belongs to the Congress consisting of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Senate represents the states while the House of Representatives — the population. The executive power belongs to the President and his Administration (Vice-President and Cabinet of Ministers). The judicial power belongs to the Supreme Court and the system of Federal, state and district courts.

11.There are several political parties in the USA, the largest of them are the Republican (symbolised by a donkey) and the Democratic (symbolised by an elephant).
