Метою методичних рекомендцій є розвиток умінь усіх видів мовленнєвої діяльності студентів 2 курсу. Тексти для читання доповнюються вправами для опрацювання лексичних одиниць та удосконалення відповідних мовленнєвих навичок.

ПЕРЕДМОВА
Методичні рекомендації призначені для студентів другого курсу філологічного факультету і мають на меті подальший розвиток умінь аудіювання, читання, усного та писемного мовлення студентів. Запропоновані матеріали підготовлені відповідно до нормативної програми для студентів факультетів іноземних мов інститутів та університетів1, націлені на поглиблене опрацювання лексичних одиниць у комплексі з базовим підручником з англійської мови для студентів другого курсу факультетів іноземних мов2.
Методичні рекомендації включають такі блоки вправ: «Лексика» (“Speech Patterns”, “Vocabulary Exercises”, “Additional Vocabulary”, “Revision Exercises”), «Візит до театру» (“A visit to the theatre”, “Actors (genius or labour?”, “Dilemma ‘To be or not to be?”), «Жанри» (“Genres”, “Pantomime”), «Всередині театру» (“Inside of the theatre”), «Огляд британських театрів» (“Overview of the British theatres”, “Theatres in London”, “Repertory and commercial theatres”, “Ukrainian theatre”), «Життя – театр» (“Life is theatre”). Крім того, методичні матеріали містять розділ «Писати академічно» (“Writing academically”), в межах якого пропонуються вправи для навчання англомовної писемної комунікації студентів.

Вправи першого блоку націлені на поглиблене опрацювання активного лексичного мінімуму та мовленнєвих зразків та формування відповідних навичок. Вправи інших блоків мають на меті формування навичок і вмінь усного мовлення (діалогічного та монологічного), читання (ознайомлювального та вивчаючого). Для досягнення цієї мети розроблено умовно-комунікативні та комунікативні вправи, здебільшого особистісно орієнтовані, проблемного характеру, з необхідністю аргументування своєї думки, формулювання висновків. Мовні вправи використовуються для сприяння усвідомленню студентами мовних форм лексичних одиниць, структури англомовних текстів різних стилів.
Виконання вправ сприятиме збагаченню словникового запасу студентів, розвитку вмінь основних видів мовленнєвої діяльності, формуванню соціокультурної компетенції шляхом ознайомлення з культурою, звичаями та традиціями народу, мова якого вивчається.

Task1. Two real Englishmen in real English weather met at the bus stop. Read the dialogue between them in pairs. Take the parts of the two men from the picture, try to imitate them like actors, be expressive and speak as you think they would do. Your knowledge of the English mentality might help you here. (Do you know already a lot about it?)

Task 2. Share your impressions of some past experience; imagine that you with your partner have much in common, just like the two men from the above dialogue. Use Speech pattern 1.

Exercise 1. A) You can keep a record of common collocations and combinability by using ‘spidergrams’. These are very clear on the page and you can add to them. Complete these.
B) Write sentences supplying context for the phrases from ‘spidergrams’ using literary works by English or American authors or English English dictionary.
Example: Shall I make a guess? You are M. Hercule Poirot (Christie).
Elinor could not now be made unhappy by this behaviour (Austen).
Exercise 2. Write the opposite of these phrases and expressions. The first is done for you.
