EX3.READ AND TRANSLATE THE TEXT: «ULYANOVSK».
I live in Ulyanovsk. It is quite an old town. It was founded in the middle of the 17-th century in 1648 by Bogdan Chitrovo. At that time its name was Simbirsk. Our town is famous for the fact, that V.I.Lenin was born here. The Ulyanov s family lived in our town for a long time. So Simbirsk was renamed in Ulyanovsk in 1924 after Lenin s death.
Our town is worth seeing. There are many monuments in honour of V.I.Lenin and many tourists visit them with great pleasure, especially the Lenin Memorial, which was built in 1970.
In front of the Memorial one can visit a house, where Volodya Ulyanov was born.
Tourists of our town visit the house in Lenin Street, where the Ulyanovs family lived and I think I would show all these sights to our guests.
Ulyanovsk is situated on the both banks of the Volga river. It is the longest river in Europe. My favourite place in our town is embankment of the river. It is so pleasant to stand at the very top of it and watch the beauty of the river.
The Lenin Memorial, the new building of the Pedagogical University, the Museum of Regional Studies form the harmonious complex and the embankment of the river attaches special colour to it. There are many beautiful trees, flowers, bushes there and young people like to walk there.
I think Ulyanovsk is rather big industrial centre.
There are many plants here. The famous «AVTOUAZ» produces a lot of good cars, which are known all over Russia. “Volzhanka” s sweets get a lot of prizes for their quality. I am fond of its producion very much. “AVIASTAR” is famous all over the world for its producing of transport planes.
Our town is the town of youth. There are many universities, schools, technical schools and colleges in Ulyanovsk. A lot of pupils and students get their knowledge there.
I can add I want our ton to be nice, clean and always beautiful.

If I could choose where to live l would have the best of both places as each of them has its own advantages to say nothing of disadvantages.
Life in the city is much easier than in the country- developed transport system, sewerage system, information, sport, shopping malls, etc. Modern men are too sophisticated for simple country pleasures. There is far more
in the city than in the country. Cities offer high concentration of good things in life: big stores, restaurants, theatres, cinema, art galleries. Life is more convenient in a city: services are always better here. In the city people are more open-minded. It is possible to go out , make friends and never be cut off from them by weather conditions. Generally, people do not mind what you do in the city. In the city people have more chances to be employed, as the range of jobs is greater than in a village. Besides in the city people have more chances to succeed. Moreover, life is never dull in the city, people always have something to do here. The objections to city living are not convincing enough. People easily adapt to various inconveniences of city life. For example, noise and traffic are hardly noticeable to city-dwellers. In the city especially in our country people live in apartments with central heating, telephone, gas, electricity, radio, TV, the internet. Most people love cities. In 330 BC Aristotle wrote that by nature man belonged to a city. Many people love the busy city life. It is enough for them to visit a country at week-ends.

- Well, in the countryside l enjoy such simple things of primary importance as sunlight and fresh air. Besides, living in the country-side is cheaper and safer than in a city. It provides people with more security. There is less crime and, of course, there is less traffic there. Life in the countryside is quiet, peaceful, and healthy. I like to be close to nature. Here people are friendly and it is much more pleasant in the countryside than in the city. Unfortunately, life in the countryside is rather hard. Working and living conditions are difficult, social and cultural life in the countryside is not full of entertainment. And annually more young people flee from the countryside for a better life in the city.
