In spite of a great interest towards discourse studies and research into the situational variability of a language the prosodic aspect of oral discourse has been mostly ignored and is still not thoroughly investigated and described. The report addresses the problems of effective human communication and the role of phonetic means in achieving the pragmatic aim. The author gives an overview of the latest discourse analysis research with special focus on a range of prosodic parameters which are known to make meaningful contributions to discourse. Such research is beneficial for both - discourse analysts and phoneticians, as some prosodic aspects can be explained and interpreted only at discourse level. Moreover discourse analysis will contribute to better understanding of the role of prosody in communication.

The problem of self-presentation is quite significant for contemporary Internet communities as it is important for bloggers to create a certain image of themselves to enlarge the number of their subscribers. The report is devoted to analysis of tactics of self-presentation used by travel bloggers in their blogs in Instagram. Being the leading platform of visual communication, Instagram is a peculiar means of communication. Its language part as it seems at first plays a secondary role while taking a decision whether to subscribe to a blog. To retain their followers bloggers have to use different tactics of self-presentation in the limited textual space. Travel blogs were chosen for consideration because firstly they are very popular in Instagram and secondly because the used tactics are diverse and differ from blog to blog.

Freidina Elena. Accommodation of accent and its sociocultural sources
The paper highlights the problems of phonetic variation in oral discourse. Focus is given to the social and cultural contextual factors which influence the choice of phonetic means in speech communication. Prestige of accents, accommodation of pronunciation and new trends in English pronunciation are discussed.
Within the framework dynamic discourse models of identity accents are studied with regard to both the social characteristics of discourse participants and various factors that emerge in social interaction and are determined by sociocultural context and specific features of the national speech culture. In the process of speech interaction the accent acquires various social connotations. The ideas of accent prestige and attractiveness within a particular social group may lead to accommodation of pronunciation. Phonetic accommodation is frequently observed in the speech of the younger generation and members of different subcultures. A good example of accent accommodation is the spread of the so-called 'Mockney' accent used by educated young people.

FreimanVasily.Editorial shifts in the British and American editions of early and later Harry Potter books
The American publications of J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series provide a typical example of regional adaptation which both stemmed from and underpinned linguistic dissimilarities between British and American English. As new books came out, however, the extent of editorial changes decreased in the later parts of the series due to readers’ complaints, as well as those of the author herself.
Therefore, we conducted a corpus analysis of the British and American editions of the first and sixth books published with an eight-year interval (The Philosopher’s Stone and The Half-Blood Prince), in order to see the distribution of editorial shifts across several levels of language, namely, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling. In light of corpus evidence regarding BrE and AmE regional differences, we counted up the number of variable pairs for each of the selected units which undergo substitutions in the American versions, further comparing the differences in the two pairs of editions, and constructing a comparative chart.
While, as expected, the analysis demonstrated a significant reduction in lexical and grammatical substitutions in the US edition of Half-Blood Prince, it also revealed that certain changes remain steady in both texts, such as spelling and some morphological features. Moreover, in several instances there appears to be an increase in variation. Thus, three main trends of editorial shifts were identified: reduction (partial and absolute), consistency, and expansion, from most to least predominant.
