III. WORK AT THE FOLLOWING TEXT

3.1. READ AND ANSWER THE QUESTION:

What is the result of using cellular phones by business people?

NEW TECH: CELLULAR PHONES

Today it is no problem to imagine a world without telephone wires or pay phones. This is not a fantasy from a Jules Vernes novel. The number of cellular phones in use indicates that such a day is not far off. The popularity of cellular technology spreads, and more and more people take advantage of its benefits.   There are millions of cellular subscribers in the world, and more people are subscribing every month. It is a really great success for an industry that is a little bit more than twenty years old.   The technology has made great advances over the past several years. Today, service is error-free, and there are very small phones. More important is the fact that rapid changes in technology bring down the costs of equipment and services. That, in turn, increases the number of users and encourages more manufacturers to compete for business. The competition makes choosing a reliable and cost-effective service a very difficult task. One might say it's easier to order a spaceship for interga-lactic sales trips than to pick out the right cellular phone. Dozens of manufacturers produce them giving potential subscribers many models from which to choose.   Potential subscribers are recommended to shop around before purchasing the system. Retailers should be selected by their reputation for reliability and fairness. On-site service is also important. The majority of users are business people. They use cellular phones to increase productivity. Most of them say that they have more than doubled their productivity as a result.   Female users sometimes purchase the phones for personal security reasons. In future, more and more people will be communicating with each other with the help of cellular phones. Pay phones and telephone wires will fade into history.   In this country, cellular technology has not enjoyed great popularity so far. It is a costly service. Business people and commercial firms such as major banks or hotels are equipping themselves with cellular phones. Some big companies work as distributors of the technology in Eastern Europe. Let's hope that with cellular phones management will improve here.
