People around you

We all live surrounded by people, just because human is a social creature and we all need to socialize. Every of us can divide people around him on two main groups: strangers and people who he has already known. The second part consists from our relatives, friends, parents, teachers, counterparts etc. Approximately in our age a person knows from three to five hundred people.

It's clear that different people surround us. It's impossible to meet similar people. For example, one person can be boring, he doesn't like communicating; the other person can be sociable, he likes to deal with people. For one person it's important to study, to work, to take care of his family, but it can be absolutely unimportant for the other person. We all are different.

I don’t want to tell now about my groopmates, because in their topics they will tell about themselves. And that’s why I want to tell you about my friend Misha. We have known each other since first grade and I feel like I have known him for all my life. Well let’s describe him. He is in his late teens, he is nineteen as me. He is well-build, but probably shortish. I think it is not a problem, but as you know if a boy is short, then he tries to do his best to compensate it becaming more interesting, original. Well hi tries to be more attractive, he wants everybody to notice him. …. And now again about Misha. He is a brunette, probably even black headed. He has wavy hair and never cares about his hair style. He has eyes of interesting color it is something between grey and green. And about his personality, he is thoughtful, sociable, lively, cheerful, polite reliable, talkative and friendly. Sometimes he tries to be even aggressive but only for fun and with people who he doesn’t like. He is very good friend, he tries his best to help us( his friends).

How to spend your time

HOW YOU SPEND YOUR TIME (Hobbies)

People live a very busy life nowadays, so they have little time to spare. Still they try their best to make use of those rare hours of leisure. A hobby is a favorite pastime of a person.

Hobbies differ like tastes. People choose their hobbies according to their taste and character. Someone likes simply to watch TV, lying on a sofa, when someone climbs to the mountains.

If you have chosen a hobby to your liking, lucky you are: you have made your life more interesting. But many people have nothing to do during their spare time, though there are many different hobbies: reading, collecting, going in for sports, traveling and others.

If a person collects something, he does it according to his financial abilities: someone collects cars or pictures of world-known painters, while another one collects beer cans or stamps. But no matter what they collect, it gives them pleasure. Many collections started in a small way with one or two items. Some private collections are really valuable.

No matter what kind of hobby a person has, he always has an opportunity of learning from it.

Some young people find it a pleasure to go to the theatre. The theatre is one of the most ancient kinds of art. For centuries people have come to the theatre for the different aims: to relax, to be amazed or entertained, to have a good laugh, to enjoy the acting of their favorite actors and actresses.

Modern life is impossible without traveling. Many people travel by rail, by air, by sea or by road for pleasure.

A relatively new hobby is watching TV. But I don’t think that television is a hobby at all. As for me, it’s the way of getting information. There are two viewpoints on television. Some people think that TV is going a lot of harm. People begin to forget how to occupy their free time. It prevents them from communicating with each other, from visiting friends or relatives. And indeed, people are used to have hobbies, to go outside for amusements, to the theatres, cinemas, sporting events. They are used to read books and listen to music. But TV gives wonderful possibilities for getting information, for education. TV brings the whole world in our rooms.

Computers are a new hobby too. Many young people all over the world like to sit glued to the monitor all day long, playing their favorite computer games and taking part in chart and forums.

Well, as for me, certainly I haven’t got much free time for hobbies. As mater of fact I don’t like to collect different things just because there is to much different unuseful things at our home. Well I like to do, to create something and most of all I like to sew and to make Vologodskoe lace. When you do something by your hands you are more delighted to were it. When you do something accurately and diligently you should think step by step how to do it better to get the best result. I like the process itself.

So as you can see there are a lot of things to do during your free time. Perhaps some people need hobbies just to make their life sensible.

Countries and cities (A place I know well, customs and traditions)

COUNTIES & CITIES (CHINA)

China is the one of the largest countries in the world. The total area of the country is over million square kilometers. As to population China is the first country in the world. Over one thousand million peoples live in it. It means that one out of every five people in the whole world is Chinese. China is a great country, so only it has the man-made object which is visible from outer space - The Great Wall. China has a recorded history of nearly four thousand years. It was a monarchy till 1949 when Mao Tse Tung became a head of the state. Since that year China has been a Socialist Republic. In 1976 China started the Cultural Revolution, and it finished in 1976 when Mao dead. And now China is in the hands of Deng Xiaping, who has given the country a little free enterprise. Doors are now open to the rest of the world. And you can even come to China to study there. Some words about China’s education system. At the first all foreigners’ students will have to share a room with one Chinese student, which is very common. Days start very early, so they’ll have to get up at about six o’clock. There are morning exercises in the open air, and they will be invited to join it. The breakfast is at about six thirty. And all meals are communal. Their classes will probably be in English and Chinese, they’ll begin at seven thirty. Lunch is at twelve, and then more classes until six. After school day students usually go to the cinema. In fact it’s very difficult to get tickets. People also like to go for walks, to play cards or just to sit outside talking. The air in the streets is not pollute, because there are few cars but literally millions of bicycles. Chinese food is legendary that’s why you can find it in most cities in the world, and people like it very much. If you want to visit China you’ll have to get a visa. There are in fact many cities that you can visit with just the ordinary visa, and others that you need to get a visa from the local police station to go to. Now there is a very good train service and also an internal air service, but I think that it’ll be better if you travel by trains because you’ll see so much more of the country. And I also think that China is worth seeing. And you’ll never forget it if you visit it.

Life story

LIFE STORY (Tom Cruise)

Born in Syracuse, New York on 3rd July 1962, Tom Cruise had a difficult childhood. His parents divorced when he was twelve, and in the first eleven years of his life his family moved a total of seven times. He had problems at school, partly because he never stayed in one place long enough to make friends and partly because he suffered from dyslexia and found reading very hard. As a teenager he couldn’t decide whether to become a priest or a wrestler, but at the age of eighteen he chose acting as a career.

His first film Endless Love, in1981, was followed quickly in the same year by Taps in which he had a strong supporting role as an angry young cadet. Over the next few years he made a name for himself in a series of fairly successful films often playing attractive ‘boy-next-door’ types. His big break came in 1986 in the hit Top Gun, where he played a rebellious fighter pilot with a killer smile.

By the late 1980s magazines were calling him ‘easy the most powerful star of his generation’ because of his serious roles in Rain Man, in 1988, opposite Dustin Hoffman, and Born on the Fourth of July, which was made in the following year. For this film he received his first Oscar nomination for Best Actor for his powerful performance as the anti-war hero Ron Kovic. People who have worked with him say he’s a perfectionist, preparing carefully for each role, and focusing 100 per cent whilst in the studio. Success continued in the 90s with films such as Mission Impossible and Eyes Wide Shut. He is now one of the few actors who receives more than 20 million dollars a picture.

Cruise is a very private man, who really gives interviews. His personal life has had its ups and downs. In 1987 he married actress Mimi Rodgers who was several years old than him, but the marriage ended in divorce in 1990. In the same year he married his co-star from Days of Thunder, red-headed actress Nicole Kidman. Both of them are members of the Church of Scientology, but Cruise has always refused to answer questions about his religion.

Whatever happens in his private life, people will remember him as one of the most charismatic actors of the modern cinema and many will probably agree with People magazine in 1997 when they chose him as one of the fifty most beautiful people in the world.
