Завдання до відеоматеріалу у частині четвертій – мультфільму «When did Mathematics begin?»

Student Dima Loboda
Hi! My name’s Dima Loboda. I’m seventeen. I come from Volnovakha, a town in the south-east of Ukraine.
In June I finished school in my home town and applied to Donetsk National University. My external tests points were high and I was admitted. So, now I’m a first-year student at the Faculty of Mathematics and IT. Our faculty offers four courses: Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science. I take a course in Statistics. I’m going to be an actuary. I’m enjoying the course a lot, but it’s a very hard work. We study so many subjects: Calculus (Mathematical Analysis), Linear Algebra, Analytical Geometry, Computer Science, Theory of Probability, Ukrainian History, Foreign Language, Business Ukrainian and Physical Training, PT for short. We go to big lectures, but most of the work takes place in 1_____ and seminars. We have to attend all classes and can miss classes only for valid reasons.
I live in a 2____. It is very close to the university – it’s only a 5-minute walk from it. I sharea room with two other students from my group. Living without parents is a new experience for me. It has its advantagesand disadvantages. On the one hand, it’s great to be independent, not to be supervised day and night, but on the other hand, you don’t have your dinner made for you and your clothes washed for you. However, I think a hall of residence is a good school of life.
After my Bachelor’s 3_____ I’m going to continue my studies for a 4______ degree.
Student Dasha Klimova
Hello! My name’s Dasha Klimova. I’m eighteen. I’m from Donetsk.
I finished school last year but I couldn’t enter the university because my external tests 5____ were lower than the university required. This year I passed independent tests with good results and was enrolled. Each academic year consists of two parts called semesters or terms. At the end of each semester we have tests and examinations in four or five subjects.
I take a course in Applied Mathematics. I’m going to be a programmer. It’s very difficult to be a student at the Faculty of Mathematics and IT. Just look at the subjects we study: Calculus, Algebra and Geometry, Computer Architecture, Fundamentals of Programming, Software Engineering, Programming Languages, Discrete Maths. Thank God, I live at home with my parents and don’t have to think of daily 6_______. I only tidy up my room once a week. My homework takes most of my time and Calculus – half of it. I faced the biggest 7_____ of my studies, Calculus! I’m not going to do research in pure mathematics. Why are we given so much Calculus?
After my fourth year I’ll get my Bachelor’s degree if I manage to pass my Calculus of course.
