Speak about pros and cons of this profession ?

What qualities do you need to do this job ?

1. I am a second-year student of the Dniepropertovsk Transport economic college.

2. I entered here to study ‘Hotel service and catering’ / ‘Tourism servcie’.

3. After graduating from the college I will be able to work in tourism industry or accommodation industry which is an integral part of tourism.

4. I can work either at a hotel at front desk or at any other hotel departments or in a tourist company as a tour guide, resort representative,  travel agent or tour leader.

5. But in any case my future job requires knowledge about hotels, transport arrangements and sightseeing.

6. I must know how to give tourists advice about accommodation and places of interest.

7. Of course, it will take a lot of energy because I will need to be patient and friendly, calm and resourceful at any time.

8. But I like helping people to have a good time that’s why I have chosen this profession.

9. Despite the fact that there are many cons of this profession I like it very much.

10. Of course, this profession is very tiring.

11. And I will have to deal with customers’ complaints and problems.

12. I will also have to be responsible for room rate and room service.

13. I will have to be aware of all hotel facilities and services as well as their schedule.

14. My future job also requires responsibility to the hotel manager or tour company manager.

15. If I work at reception I will always have to welcome customers with a warm smile at all times.

16. And when people make a telephone conversation, I will have to answer the phone within three rings or apologize for the delay when I answer the call.

17. My future work requires politeness while speaking to people and using their names in conversation and having eye contact.

18. The person who works at front desk must take care of people with particular needs and the disabled.

19. Although sometimes reception is very busy a receptionist mustn’t keep people waiting long.

20. But nevertheless despite of so many cons my future profession is very interesting.

21. I will meet many new people and be able to travel around the world.

22. I’m sociable and diplomatic that’s why it won’t be difficult for me to deal with people’s complaints.

23. If I work as a tour leader I will have to be responsible for making sure that the tour goes smoothly and the people enjoy their holiday.

24. I will also have to check the transport arrangements, organize the accommodation and tell people what is happening each day.

25. Maybe sometimes I will have to work as a tour guide.

26. But I enjoy my future profession therefore it won’t be difficult for me.

You probably have a mobile phone, but your parents probably didn’t have mobile phone when they were teenagers.

· How has technologies changed communication throughout history ?

· Do you think that technology is capable of changing personal relationships ?

1. A few decades ago people could not imagine talking fridges and intelligent central heating systems.

2. But in a few years these ‘clever machines’ will become a standard in houses all over the UK.

3. In 2005 the UK government announced that it is spending a budget of £40 million on new technologies over the next few years.

4. The fridges and central heating systems will be able to speak to a service center when they need a new part or when there is a problem.

5. Some of the new types of fridges will also be programmed to inform the owner when they are running out of certain food items.

6. These fridges will speak to the owner when the owner opens the door and will tell them what they need to buy.

7. So going shopping and buying spare parts for your fridge may become a thing of the past.

8. These changes in technology won’t be limited by developing energy-saving systems only.

9. Televisions on wristwatches, the Internet on microwave oven and DVD players on fridges will be potential future products.

10. And these innovations are the steps of a very close future.

11. I think very soon we’ll miss our personal relationships because scientists are going to develop cars that talk to service stations and personal digital shopping assistants.

12. They are going to program the shopping assistants not only to do the shopping but also to deliver it to people’s homes.

13. That’s why supermarket shopping on the Internet, which has boomed in the UK and the USA, will very soon be in the past.

14.  And the things we consider nowadays as new technologies, we’ll become outdated very-very soon.

15. 3G – phone technology and the Internet change so rapidly that we barely have time to get used to one new concept before it is immediately replaced by another.

16. These days lots of students use the Internet for help with their homework and assignments, using Internet cheats or Cheating.com

17. And there is no doubt that the Web has become a valuable academic tool.

18. But now that cutting and passing is so easy that there can often be a fine dividing line between using the Net for research and plagiarizing material directly from it.

19. There are sites that offer students ready-made downloadable essays on a number of popular topics – usually for a payment.

20. But most teachers are not aware of Internet plagiarism, and as a result:

21. A high-school student turns in an essay using language and ideas more suitable for a university student;

22. A week student suddenly turns in an outstanding essay;

23. The same work occurs in a number of different students’ assignments.

24. The essay doesn’t quite fit the question or title that the teacher has set the class.

25. American students produce essays written in British English, or vice versa.

26. But the price of plagiarism can be high, especially in the USA, where it is not uncommon for students to be expelled, particularly at college level.
