Last year I decided to do something totally different and exciting for my holiday. I love horse riding and I’m a big fan of cowboy films. So Clare (my husband’s sister) and I went to Texas id stayed on a real ranch with real cowboys. Everyday we helped round up the cattle and move them to fresh fields. As I work at a riding school, I didn’t mind being on horseback seven hours a day. But Clare only goes riding at weekends and was really exhausted by the end of the day. We id a brilliant time, though!

Louisa, Scotland

I’m never happier than when I’m in the great outdoors. As far as I’m concerned, staying . hotels is pretty boring. Few summers ago, I went to Turkey and stayed in a tree house. It’s not the best place to stay if you’re afraid of heights because you have to climb up a really high ladder to get to your room. In the morning it was wonderful looking out the window and being light up at the top of the tree. I loved it! This truly is a great place to go if you are adventurous Und love nature.

Jamie, USA

Before going to university, I took a year off to travel around the world with a group of friends from secondary school. We didn’t have a lot of money and we were always trying to id cheap places to stay. You wouldn’t believe some of the places we ended up staying in! One 'the best was a hostel in Canada. They had turned an old prison into a place to stay but they’d kept it the same as when there were prisoners there. It was quite basic and each cell had four people staying in it. All I could think about was all the people who had been locked up there. I have to say I was thankful that our cell doors weren’t locked at night!

Keira, South Africa

I always wanted to travel to Venice and I finally did it last year. As a city full of canals, one way to cross the water is to use a gondola, a traditional rowing boat. I was with my best friend, Sue, and we decided to hire one. We had so much fun on the boat, laughing and posing for pho- |fcs! At one point, I stood up to take a photo of Sue. However, the boat started to rock, I lost my lance and actually dropped my camera in the water. It was horrible!

HIGHFIELD HOUSE

Come and enjoy three hundred years of history in a single day! Highfield House is one of Britain’s finest old buildings, with attractive, well-kept gardens and good views of the beautiful North Norfolk coast.

Until recently, it was the home of members of the Highfield family. Now, however, this classic eighteenth-century hall is a living museum full of art and history, where many objects belonging to its past inhabitants can be seen and enjoyed by the public.

Highfield House really does have something for everyone. There are so many attractions, from the beautiful state rooms to the peaceful picnic places by the lake. You can even have a trip on the water if the weather is suitable.

Enjoy a guided tour of the House, starting with the grandeur of the entrance and carry on through the various rooms. Visitors should note that some rooms may be closed for repairs. The tour of the House ends in the old kitchen.

Highfield also has a large collection of objects which were once used on the farm, such as early planting and harvesting machines and steam engines. These can be seen in a separate building near the House.

You will also find many wonderful examples of the work of local painters for sale in the shop. And don’t miss the beautiful Garden Centre on the site of what used to be the old eighteenth-century walled garden. The Centre has a good range of trees, shrubs and plants for sale and is open the whole year.

Visit the gift shop for really useful presents for all the family, and have a look in the art gallery at the collection of beautiful pictures belonging to the owners of Highfield House. Follow your visit with a delicious afternoon tea in the comfort of the tea room. Or, if you don’t wish to be inside, why not bring your own picnic with you to have in the park, before walking beside the lake to see the many different kinds of birds there?
