There are a lot of places of interest in Belarus: ancient towns, monuments and museums. They are our national heritage. Among the main Belarusian treasures we can mention the city of Nesvizh. The castle is associated with mysterious legends about lost treasures and ghosts. Two centuries ago there was one of the richest libraries and rich collections of arts and weapons. Now the castle is renovated and gathers tourists from abroad. Musical festivals are held in Nesvizh castle every year. So, I would advise to visit Nesvizh.

The Republic of Belarus is situated in the centre of Europe and borders on Poland, Lithuania, the Ukraine and Russia. So, Belarus is situated at the crossroads of trade routes from west to east and from north to south. 1. What do you know about Great Britain?

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is situated on the British Isles. The British Isles consists of two large islands, Great Britain and Ireland, and about 5 000 small islands. Their total area is over 244 000 square kilometers. Its population is over 64 million. The United Kingdom is made up of 4 countries: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The capital of the UK is London.                                                                                       The British Isles are separated from the Continent by the North Sea, the English Channel and the Straight of Dover. The western coast of Great Britain is washed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Irish Sea.

The UK is a constitutional monarchy with a parliament and the Queen as Head of State. But in practice it is ruled by elected government with the Prime Minister at the head.

The national anthem is “God Save the Queen”. The national currency is pound. The flag of the UK is know as the Union Jack. It has its history. It all began in 1603 when Scotland was joined to England and Wales. The flag is made up of 3 crosses.

  1. What historical places can you advise me to visit in England?

There are a lot of interesting places in England. In London I would advise you to see Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and the Tower are also interesting. I think of that you should visit the City, the oldest part of London where you can see St. Paul’s Cathedral. I also recommend you to visit the Bridge of London, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. You can go to Hyde Park just to rest and see the Poet’s Corner. But the best look on the city is from London Eye.

  1. They say that the British are quite reserved. What do you think about it?

In Britain you will find most people are kinder to you if you behave politely, respecting local people and customs. You may sometimes upset people by things that you say or do, even if these things seem perfectly normal in your own culture.

The British are quite reserved in manners, dress and speech. They are famous for their politeness, self-discipline and specially for their sense of humor. Basic politeness (please, thank you, excuse me) is expected.

English people are very reserved. This means that they don’t talk much to strangers, and don’t show  much emotion. A reserved person never tells you anything about himself. But the people of the North and West of Britain are much less reserved than those of the South and East. Most British people queue when they are waiting for a bus or waiting to be served in a shop. But during the rush hour, when a bus or train arrives, people often push forward to make sure they get on. This is called jumping the queue. British people keep their old traditions and are very proud of them. They are famous for their sense of humour. English people show great love for animals. And, of course, English people are fond of sports. Many continentals think life is a game; the English think cricket is a game. To many Englishmen cricket is both a game and a standard of behaviour. When they consider something unfair, they say “That isn’t cricket”.
